Fitness Blog---What to eat for breakfast

You should eat breakfast, especially if you want to lose weight or just be healthy

Why?
I was listening to the radio and they said that people who don't eat breakfast will consume about 30% calories a day than those who do eat breakfast. Furthermore, those who don't eat breakfast are 450 times more likely to be overweight!!!

Also, eating breakfast has been shown to lower your risk of diabetes (has to do with blood sugar control). It also definitely helps keep you mentally sharp and from getting headaches throughout the day.

What?
Here are some options:

Low fat milk and whole-grain cereal (look for low sugar, high protein and high fiber, you will notice special K does not qualify) All of the Kashi varieties are great, Fiber One and any of its newer versions are also great.


Whole-grain granola topped with fruit and yogurt (use lowfat vanilla yogurt, slice up a banana and add a handful of granola OR instead of the banana put a handful of frozen blueberries and strawberries)


Fruit smoothie made with yogurt/Protein shake (FitSmart is fantastic and so is Jay Robb's protein powder or muscle milk light)

Frozen waffles with ricotta cheese and a couple slices of canned peaches (in juice) and a few nuts on top (trust me it's yummy)

What if you are in a hurry? I always am and have to eat in the car most of the time.

Instant oatmeal- My fave is Quaker's Weight Control
I put some water and a package of instant oatmeal in a plastic container, microwave it while i'm getting ready and eat it in the car...

or i eat an apple and a piece of string cheese

or a protein bar (i like special K's new bars)

if i have a few more minutes i make a breakfast burrito using the La tortilla factory tortillas i blogged about earlier and some egg beaters.

trust me, if you stopped eating breakfast, you would be able to tell so quickly that it is helping you!!
and congrats on the previous weight loss and for keeping it off.
Kashi and Fiber One are both cereals i suggested. I don't know if you have seen yet but Fiber One is starting to make other varieties like Fiber One flakes etc, you might want to check them out.

People who start their day with a protein rich breakfast eat far less during the day. eggs are definitely a great breakfast if you have the time. You can always microwave one (sounds gross but it works) and put it on two slices of bread and be good to go. as for bread, look for bread with less than 100 cals a piece and at least a couple grams each of fiber and protein. And stay away from anything saying enriched flour!!!! if you have a Trader Joe's, go there.

mmm apple and string cheese! i love it! my fav on the go breakfast is an apple a notfat organic plain or vanilla yogurt (for dipping the apple in of course) and a KIND fruit nut delight bar. high in sugar but good on the go! a good one that i learned from Tim Ferris' blog is the high in protien egg breakfast. Microwave eggs with frozen spinach and put salsa on top, whala! a veggie flavorful proten rich breakfast!
