What is your Pinup Style ?

I am for the most part new to this. I have always loved pinup girls, pinup art and vintage movies. Only about 4 years ago did I discover the pinup culture and lifestyle. Prior to that I had always assumed I was a unique weirdo.

I have seen so many subcultures of pinup and am curious to learn about it all. I always think of myself as a classic, old world film noir type of pinup girl. I really do my best to emulate the look, style and atmosphere of the old world 1920s-late 40s pinup girls.

What type of pinup girl are you? What is your favorite type of pinup?

"poor you" with the exquisite long legs LOL. I will say that I proudly have the same problem. My issue with being a tall girlie is that I cant find good vintage or retro shoes that actually fit. Women must have been TINY back then !

ps: On the winter front, heavy duty 'hand knitted' jumper (the sort your Granny knitted for Christmas) is always a winner for me. Ooh and a nice thick lumberjack jacket! I got my newest one for £25!

My style varies from day to day, really, although I usually tend to stick to bright and colorful articles of clothing and such. Although I have my "dark days", I really like being a walking ray of sunshine.
I love mixing up modern chic with 50's glam. As much as I love going strictly retro, I often find I'll receive more "Katie Perry" remarks when doing so. Go figure.

There could be worst people to be compared to than Katy Perry, she is adorable. I love the cover shot from her new album ( not a fan of the music but love the look) She looks stunning as a pinup girl ! I am much the same way as you . Most of the time I am bright and cutsie but then I am known to go full black and revert to sporting my Docs and leather jacket.

I literally grew up on Punk, and was Goth before there was Goth. I LOVE Rockabilly! It is everything I adore. I LOVE my pencil skirts, foofy gresses and big retro hair. I tend to be more psycho at a music show though, mostly dressing in white Ts, cuffed jeans, and Converse. Not sure that this describes Pinup.

My favorite type of Pinup work is by Gil Elvgen. John Eaves introduced me to it, and I am really in awe of the beauty of the women he captured. No I'm not into girls, but LOVE how God has designed us!

Oh, and let's not forget to mention the excellent work that Edson, and his family, has contributed to Pinup. I'm not sure my lifestyle would be quite the same without this contribution to current Pinup!

I get around that buy 'borrowing' my nan's hehe! She was 6' tall before she shrank, with size 8 (UK) feet so I go and raid her wardrobe from time to time. It's that or I buy reproductions.

Interesting to me that most of us pinup girls come out of some other alternative subculture. Recently at a "vintage" event my husband and I met a gentleman who after several minutes of conversation confessed to being a former punk. I find it ironic that he and my husband, both vintage and art deco enthusiasts were followers of the punk and goth scene and ended up being retro junkies and interestingly enough scientists. Who would have thought back in the day that this was possible. As for myself I was always the arty Bohemian type of girlie and still dress the part. As much as I LOVE pinup, my stilletos, my garter belts and corsets I am still an artsy/goth chick most of the time !

Overall, I prefer vintage over modern. In fact, recently I swore off most modern wear--I cleaned out my closet and donated to Goodwill last weekend!--and I very rarely step out of the house now in anything that isn't vintage or vintage repro/inspired, which is proving to be expensive lolol

I don't do jeans anymore, or pants in general really. The only exception I make is for high-waisted styles (when I can find them) and my yoga/workout pants that I usually only don at home or when I need to run errands real quick. I'm very picky about skirt length too. I won't wear anything above my knees XD

I'd say my style is more 30s and 40s, though with a bit of the 50s in between. Personally I can't stand the 60s. I don't know why, I just don't like it lolol I'm inspired by very specific looks though: for the the 30s it's Art Deco and Old Hollywood Glamour, the 40s would be day dresses and cocktail wear, and the 50s I take more youthful (especially prom) and cutesy looks from, as well as lingerie and underpinnings. I love the look of vintage Couture like Chanel and Dior too. I'd have to say the women I look to most as my style icons would definitely have to be Dorothy Lamour, Eva Perón, and Dita Von Teese

One thing I constantly seem to run into though is that, while I do listen to rockabilly music, I wouldn't say I'm a rockabilly girl per se. I'm just an odd, old, eccentric soul who was born in the wrong era and dresses up like a woman from the past! Lol! If anything though, I would say I'm a bit of Rude-abilly; I love me some ska music! Lol! Anyhoo...

I'm not really into polkadots and cherries and bats and skulls, which makes shopping for pinup clothing hard. Personally I like the look of pastels and lace and frothy tulle skirts. I'm definitely not a tough drape girl or a film noir vixen; I think the type of pinup I try to embody most is the soft, ultra feminine Glamour Girly-Girl. My smile and my over-bubbliness ruin any sort of "ass-kicker" image I might have XD

definetly 1950's love the full skirts and the sophisticated look but also love rockabilly so it depens oh! and also when I dont have time or the energy i'm known for putting on my jeans and a shirt

my style is WWII era of pinup. but recently, I made the mistake of going to one of those cheap haircutting chain stores and they butchered my hair. so I had to get bangs and now am rocking the 50's bettie page hair. I am liking it a lot, but still my fave is the ginger rogers/betty grable style. oh so 1940's! I can be versatile.

yes, shoes are a problem when looking for originals. they were so small. I am short...5' 2", but I wear a size 9 wide...6.5 UK. most women my height wear a size 6...3.5 UK. also when you have wide feet, I have to order a 9.5 if the wide width isn't available. curse these sasquatch feet of mine! haha
