"We Are The New Vintage"
Hi Ladies! I'm new here and I want to ask a question I had in my mind since I discovered pin up. I looked some discussions and I didn't find something explaining this, and If this isn't in the right place I'm sorry :(
My question is: Can a black girl be a pin up? A lot of people told me this cannot be possible because every pin up girl has white skin, and the make up they wear is special for that skin.
(And sorry for my bad english)
*ADMIN NOTE: Ladies cool it and keep it civil, educate don't hate. We didn't build this worldwide colorless community for anyone to think they CAN'T be a pinup. It exists to show that ANYONE can and that the style is represented worldwide without boundaries.

Yes, absolutely.
Why not?
The historical time of traditional pin-ups still had a lot of racism going on, so few black women were considered for mainstream artwork, but the black communities had their own thing going on, and the art does exist! Don't let anyone get away with telling you that you can't be what you want to be.
Here are a few examples of this!

Of course! I'm half black and I'm always mistaken for some sort of Hispanic nationality.....I think being a pin up has nothing to do with your skin color! I do understand why you ask and brought up the topic! My father a black man and I went to a rockabilly car show this past weekend and I couldnt find him my friend says oh that shouldn't be too hard to find him you two are like the only black people here.... Oddly enough it's true but I do think there should be more of us out there!!!!
I am also of mixed heritage. I keep seeing these images of African American stars from the 40's and 50's, Lena, Billie...but, I don't really see how those examples answers the question....lol

lemme stick my 2 cents in... I run a pinup website featuring well pinups that I like.
skin color doesn't figure into it one little bit so I've had white girls, black girls, and every shade in between
to me pinup is about the attitude not the color of your skin, your body type, hair color or any of that crap...
so now I'm off to look at your pics :)
Wow, you go girl... it is a life style.. I haven't been at it long but I am having fun w/ what i do persue.
Cheers to you,
Bunny
Also, let's not forget about Beyonce's turn at pin up in her video "Why don't you love me?" I did a shoot with model Nitra de Lovely that was inspired by Beyonce's video.

Check out Token Black Girls _ the Diversity Project they both have pages on PL
Plus http://vintagesleaze.blogspot.com/ has some good images/ research on the history of Black pin-up girls
Being a Pin-Up is about how you see yourself its not bound by colour... We all joined this site cause we identify with the pin-up aesthetic.
The only thing you cant be is what you dont want to be, never ever limit yourself especially because of skin tone.
