This question is just cruel - I love all my high fat children equally! Paging through "The Professional pastry Chef" (Bo Friberg) is my aphrodisiac of choice ;D
One that sticks in my head is an eggnog creme brulee I had 3 years ago at a fancy hotel buffet. I went back again and again! Think I had 4... Dayum, they were good! Oooooh, and there was that key lime cheesecake 6 years ago. I still weep for it. Oh! And pink grapefruit shortbread with Nutella - Di-Viiiiine!
See?? I have a _problem_.
Personally, I think pie is underrated, probably because there's so much bad pie out there (I'm looking at you "average grocery store of choice"). Dry, flavourless, bitter-crusted, just sad excuses for what can be a transcendental experience if executed with a little love and a lot of butter. Even muffins can be elevated to unheard-of heights with a little imagination.
Most recommended desserty website? Culinary Concoctions by Peabody. I've never had one of her recipes fail, even when I convert it to be gluten free.
Now I'm all antsy and itchy and twitchy for something decadent. Must. Not. Give in...
I actually am in school to be a pastry chef and yes I love yummy backed good as much as the next doll. My fav would have to be charrys 'n chocolate suflee! But i must agree with the above comment pies and muffins can be just as mouth wateringly good if you just give them some TLC!!!Great post by the way!
