Has anyone ever been told what your wearing is too much?

As a casual thing I LOVE love love love flowers in my hair, not just any flowers either; BIG flowers. They're fun and to me is a casual thing but can also dress up a simple outfit. Well, my aunt who came from another part of the state came to visit and told me what I wear is "too much". It's "too loud" and that I should take it off. Has anyone else dealt with those people who just don't..... understand and say what you wear is too much and you should take it off or change to be "normal"? What's everyone else's thoughts on it, like how do you handle those kinds of people?

Very interesting question. Usually most people I'm around are odd enough themselves ! :) I usually say something like "Well, I like it", or "I'm not trying to be normal"...interested in others' replies!

Own your look sweetheart. If it makes you happy then really that's all that matters!  You should never allow someone's discomfort towards your "Look" to sway you to delute what you're trying to achieve!

Right? Yeah, usually I say things like that too and they usually stop talking about it, but then there's the people who drag it on for no reason o_O lol it's really weird.

Thanks :) I mean it wasn't really a big deal because it was my aunt who said it and shes... well.. her. Lol! I think it just was mind blowing that someone actually came up to me and told me to take out the flower and the makeup or that it's too much. But yeah it's definitely a thing I just can't allow to bother me like you said.

Well trust and believe me I totally understand.  I am new to this whole pin up, rockabilly look and I've had my eye on it for quite sometime. I've dipped my toes in it but never dove right on in.  I blame it partly on what other people would think of me and my look.

I've grown up and become wiser and I've realized  “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”  BTW, you look beautiful with that HUGE flower in your hair! LOL

I understand that a family member such as an aunt can be a different story - sometimes they think they own the right to boss you some how! But most other people, if they persist, I would mostly just feel sorry for them. I recently went to an event and dressed up vintage style every day and night, and I got some very mean looks from girls when meeting them. I think people like that judge others because they're afraid to be THEMselves, no matter what that may truly be. If you have the confidence to wear what you truly like, go for it and consider yourself lucky!

You have a great point there and I am new to all this too. I totally feel the same way and totally agree with you. Also, thank you XD I do love those giant flowers! lol! they're so fun, and you are absolutely gorgeous!

You have a very good point there. I agree, that and they're probably just jealous. I mean you're beautiful and you go for the style you love it's going to turn some heads and make others jealous. I mean I used to be jealous of girls who did the rockabilly/pinup look because I was afraid to do it and I really wanted to, but then again I never gave bad looks either to them XD lol! But now I've grown to realize that we all don't live forever and that if I love something I should go for it, growing up I was very self-conscious and kind of the girl who stayed hidden, now I want to be that girl who has her own style and is happy with herself kind of thing. Plus the Rockabilly/Pinup look is absolutely gorgeous and isn't plain like the girls who wear the ugg boots and holister hoodies, but they are comfortable lol!

My look is always over the top...sometimes bordering on Drag Queen, and the *very* few times that people have said that it was "too much", I just shrug and feel bad for them. It's fun to be fabulous! But it takes a certain personality and amount of confidence, and some people just don't have it. The people that don't, and wish they did, are the ones that usually say something. They wish they could pull it off, and don't like people that can. It's ok, just keep doing you and being fabulous!!

I love that .... "It's fun to be fabulous!"  Yes, it is indeed.  I guess I wear so many flowers and bows that nobody thinks twice about it anymore. lol

As long as you are confident in what you wear and how you dress, then people can usually appreciate it. :)

Thanks for the advice :) I will keep that in mind if someone else tries to tell me what I wear is too much. I was one of those girls who wanted to try the pin up thing but never had the guts to try it, now it's like I feel like I found something I really love (even though I don't have the outfits yet).

Right? I've worn flowers and bows for years before I wanted to do Rockabilly/Pinup so it's a normal thing to me to wear it but it was so mind blowing when someone actually tells you you shouldn't wear something because they think it's too much.
