Hey all,

For all of us who model and have websites, profiles on various site or facebook pages I'm sure everyone has gotten their fair share of good and bad comments as well as some fan mail from their followers.  I was just curious though...how do you respond to those awkward messages you receive without simply ignoring it and pretending you never saw the message or replying in a negative or equally awkward way?

So far I've received two messages, one of which after a few days of thought, I was able to respond to in a manner that wouldn't hurt any feelings.  The second, well, I just have no idea what to say.  I want to be nice, not that I would purposefully be anything else but nice, but sometimes what you say can come out wrong.  Anyone out there have any advice or examples or how they've handling some of the weird, awkward or just downright creepy stuff?

My stock response for those type of messages is "I'm flattered that you are trying to give me a complement, but your language is not appreciated. If you'd like to continue to send me messages, that's fine, but please address me like a lady, or don't address me at all. Thank you."

It works, and 90% of the time I get an apology. Either that or I ignore it.

Post an example!

If it's an obvious come-on, or anything sexually explicit, I don't reply at all.  What I will do is post a general "hey friends, just a reminder this is a pinup page and, while I do show skin, please remember I'm not actually here to sleep with any of you".  It makes light of what might otherwise be a creepy situation, we usually get at least a small laugh out of it and, as a side benefit, anyone lurking on the page thinking along those lines usually leaves immediately afterward.

Unless it's a message saying I have a nice butt.  Then I send them a link to where they can buy an elliptical trainer just like mine ;)  Maybe NordicTrack should send me referral bonuses...

LOL!!!!

Well I've gotten a legitimate marraige proposal not just your run of the mill "OMG you're beautiful, marry me!", I've also had someone ask me if I do porn and where I live and that I should contact them.  To that person I basically said that I appreciate the thought but no I don't do porn, I don't pose nude and that I model to help raise money to open a shelter.  I ended it by saying I hoped he would still support me.  But the weirdest one I've gotten so far is an older man asking me if he could purchase any pantyhose I've worn because he would love to own a pair or two knowing I've worn them before.  I told him that I don't sell my warddrobe because of limited supply.-That is partly true though because I have such a hard time finding things that fit me properly because I'm so short.

Oh yeah, I get those wardrobe "requests" occasionally too, and they do make you feel a little weird.  A firm "No, I'm sorry but those items are not for sale" reply usually works to end that communication.

And while it's amazingly sweet of you to want to keep other people's feelings foremost in consideration of your replies, how considerate are they being of your feelings when they send inappropriate messages?  Don't be afraid to be firm, anyone who is only "supporting" you and your work because they have their own possibly-creepy-and-kinky agenda really isn't supporting you at all.
