"We Are The New Vintage"
Hello. I am wanting to be comfortable and dress as my usual self for a Halloween party. I just want to kick it up a notch and be more "pinup" like. I just don't know how to make it work for the crowd to "get it" in the way that it is a pinup look rather than an just another period look. Any suggestions? I originally was thinking to wear a vintage swimsuit w/stockings but my friends think the crowd won't understand what I am going for. Idk. I think they would. :) I have lots to choose from; wiggle dresses, swing dresses, sailor shorts and lots of polka dot shirts. Mind you I am going to a party winery where the crowd is much more conservative crowd than what I am used to. But that isn't going to scare me away from a bit of sexy. Thanks.

do you dress in period style around your friends often? if not then, we have a better place to start. if so, your going to have to go in a direction they will not perceive as you not dressing up(costume) for their party or just being extra cute. what do you mean by "dressing up as your usual self"?
If you dress vintage alot, then i suggest you go with a more "costume" pin up look. a sailor costume or house wife look(which seems more comfy to me) .
If you dont and wish to go pinup , just go all out, wear the dress you feel the best in, make sure your hair is in coiffed style, and your winged liner and red lips are perfection.
hope i helped.
I do for the most part. I usually dress rockabilly when I am not at work where I wear a uniform all day. boo! :( I just wanted to amp it up a bit and not look so everyday, more sexy.
I DO have a sailor costume and a vintage polka dot apron. (Funny, we were thinking along the same lines.) I am going to do that for sure then. Thanks.
:) Happy Haunting!
You could go as Elizabeth Taylor.... In a comfortable dress and lots of big Rhinestone jewelry... And the perfect make-up and hair...... I am going as Marilyn...(the same look, only I am blonde).
Simple black sleeveless dress with long gloves. Big rhinestone or pearl bracelets. Hair in a sleek up-do. Think Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast in Tiffany's".
Agree with the last two replies... get the hair and make-up done to perfection, throw on a simple but elegant dress and whatever amount of diamonds and pearls you feel comfortable in. I say it's much more fun for the crowd to see you (and spot the lady with vintage) in what you may feel as "over dressed" but truly, as Dita says, "it's better to be over dressed than under dressed".
If you really have the choice of dressing like a 50s siren or a 50s cafeteria lady... then go for the obvious for this job!
Cheers and good luck!
Hmmm, do you know what it means , what it is "maškare". Well it is a Croatian thing like a Helloween and this manifest happents in 2th month i a year ;) Keep me connected ;)
If you have the top to go with the sailor shorts that would look good.
So you dont know ! Well , if you are beautifull ass I see ypu , you can not miss ;)
i say if you're worried about how the crowd will take it, play down the sexy clothes a bit and play up the hair and makeup. maybe some cute, rolled-up jeans and polka dot shirt or nice, tight sweater with a pair of killer heels...that should be conservative enough for anyone! then really do up your pinup hair (maybe a nice victory roll??) and make-up. i think they'll get what you're going for without you having to throw your tatas in their face ;)
I would go the Femme Fatale Film Noir look... stockings, garters, heels, hat, gloves... the whole nine yards... it's a highly sexy and quite conservative look. You'll be really sexy but covered and definitely worthy of being pinned up. :) Any black or red wiggle dress, nude stockings with black seams and great hat with netting over the face will do... :)
I think it really depends on the mood of the party. If it's a costume party, then a sailor costume or something cute like that would be fine but if it's not a costume party, you might feel and look really out of place. I would check to see what some of your friends will be wearing and use that as a guide. Also, check the location. If it's more of an upscale place, a swimsuit wouldn't be a good choice but like the others said, a film noir or breakfast at tiffany's look would be perfect. If it's a casual thing, go for something more fun and laid back. You can never fail with a little black dress, a pair of gloves, some red lips and a fab hair style. if you want a little something sexy, wear some seamed stockings, a great pair of pumps and something that really shows off your curves. Good luck!
