What is the typical turnaround time between the shoot, seeing proofs, edited photos, and ultimately receiving the final product?  Of course I know all photgraphers are different, so this is a general question for them and models.  I have a desire to work to build my portfolio, but it seems as though it will take forever just to get a handful of shots.  Any favorite photographers in the Houston Area?

Thanks!

As someone said before, it's different for everyone, I currently have a wait list for edits but I update the wait list religiously on my website. It's public so its clear no one gets a hookup on wait times and I edit in the order the sessions were completed.

As has been noted, the definitive answer is "It depends"... This is definitely one of the things you should discuss with any photographer you work with. My personal turnaround for TFP shoots ranges from the same day to a week, depending on the shoot and what post-production is needed.

I will also occasionally go back to the raw images weeks or even months later and play with images I didn't, for whatever reason, decide to edit immediately. So technically, I've taken 7 months to deliver all of the images I edited, but there was delivery from the next day on... ;)

I usually do a week to process photos... although a almost never shoot TF... either I pay for models or some one pays me...
Well, I hate to sound like a big dork, but I am not at my computer to look it up ... what is TFP?
Trade For (print/photo/disk/CD) - basically no one pays, photographer gets model, makeup artist and model get free photos.

My turnaround as a photographer is about 4-6 months. It's simply the result of my workload and the necesary time to produce technically perfect pics. My dreamed turnaround would be around 2 months, but when I have a paid job, or strategic projects, I do them first (10 to 15 days, according to the real emergency of the stuff).

Every model who wish to work with me knows my average turnaround, and the average number of pics I'll release. They know too that some shooting session may become strategic at any time, and pic can be released immediately (i.e. 15 days). They know my quality work too, so they have - I think - enough stuff to decide to work with me or not.

My pinup army often tickles me about my turnaround, but they know the way I work, what I produce, and they try to be patient ^-^

2 weeks for fully edited proofs for my paying clients, 4 to 6 weeks for trades... fully edited, high resolution, printing rights and the ability to use for self-promotion.
It varies so much depending on how much post work is needed to create the effect they/you want, how long the shoot was and how busy they are already...sorry, I'm a little far from Houston :)
I have only been to 3 shoots so far but I have received my images very quickly. It depends on how busy the photag is, is this his/her only job, how many pics are there that need to be edited, etc. I always just ask them when they expect to get the images back to me. They are usually pretty good about giving an accurate estimate. I've done my first 3 shoots in the past week and so far, I've already received all of my images. The best way to know for sure is to jump out there and go for it!! Good luck to you! :)
well, I choose to get them their images in a week if really busy maybe 2 weeks. That is why I broke it off with last photographer Landers we had Wert Whirl. But after a year and a half of him not getting edits to people and me teaching myself to edit,I started my own business. He keeps Wert Whirl open even though it was my creation, idea, inception, getting models, everything was me. so after that nightmare here i am with Kat-Nip Photography all me.
If it's a paid shoot, I try to get them done in a week or two. A TFCD might take a little longer. But I do provide "teaser shots", 2 or 3 edited shots within 48 hours to hold the client over.
Well, it looks like I will have to really ask questions before shooting and then make the judgement of is the wait worth the final product.  Is it just luck to find a photographer who will do TFCD shots?  Do any photographers offer an uneditted disc of all the shots?
