Pin Up flower should be worn on Left or Right?

I was recently getting my hair done and my beautician asked me if I was married or single. She said if a girl is taken she is to wear her hair flower on the left. If single it goes on the right. Just wondering if it matters? I have been putting my flower on both sides due to however my hair side part falls better.

These days it doesn't make any difference.
I always have my flowers on the Left side, even if I'm single. It's a really nice tradition though. It's one of those things I randomly think about when I do my hair LOL.

I think you should place it on the side depending on your hairdo of the moment and what looks most flattering. Either way should be great :)

Thank you everyone. I think I'll stick with what I've been doing which is however my hair wants to fall that day best is the side my flower will go on. :)

Interesting! I always wear mine on the right because my hair is shorter on that side. I however am very happily married!

As flygirl9 said, it is a Hawaiian tradition, although I'm not sure if they still follow it today. It goes back farther then that to Renaissance times though, when women would wear "favors", usually flowers or flowers made from ribbon, they would pin them to their bodices so that men in the market place knew if they were taken or not.

Hawaiian's still follow the tradition.  It's just like the ring finger..  But it really doesn't matter unless you're in the room with a bunch of Polynesians lol..

I can't say I've ever heard of the tradition! I always see girls place it on their left side, but it seems to be mostly due to how their hair falls.

I think that if it works better in one side than another, really it shouldn't matter, I usually put them on the right to balance out my left-parted hair.

I didn't even know that haha. I always wear my flowers on the right side since I part my bangs to the left. Besides I highly doubt any guys would even know about that.
