So lately I've been trying to figure out how to start my burlesque career. The only start I have right about now is to get my body in shape! This is soo hard for me to do, considering I have such a bad back. If anyone has any advice for bad backs, please share! Hopefully one day , I will be able to carry on with this dream of mine!
As a Burlesque performer, I would tell you to take dance classes. Nothing tones you like good old ballet or even just a burlesque class (not sure where you live, but if there aren't any in your community than check out some of Jo Weldon's DVD's on amazon.) I think the most important part of burlesque is that you just do it! If all of us as dancers had waited until our bodies were perfect (which none of them are) then there would be NO BURLESQUE SCENE! Take off what you're comfortable with, do it cleverly, do it with confidence and have FUN! Burlesque isn't about judgement so don't stop yourself from working in the scene while you "get in shape" just do it and the happiness it brings you will help you tone up and lose whatever weight you need to... I myself started performing at 160lbs... now I'm 145lbs and I DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING! Burlesque making me happy did the trick on its own... that and me working on routines all the time. :) Hope this helps!
