I was just cruising the forums and looking through some of the members tattoo pictures, and just thinking about the different styles out there. I have friends in all sorts of different groups from all sorts of different backgrounds, some with pin ups and rockabilly style tattoos, some with "heavy metal" looking tattoos, and some with tribal style tattoos. I personally had never been a big fan of tribal tattoos, but I had to admit that a trip to Hawaii last  year, which included a luau, made me a bit of a fan of tribal tattoos, specifically tribal tattoos on young fit guys in grass skirts. ;)

I have 8 pretty good sized peices that are sort of a hodgepodge of styles on my body. I have everything from Elvis on my calf to a pink winged horse on my back (from a children's story called Shimmerree) to an antique picture frame filled with flowers that spans from my shoulder to my elbow. I cannot say I really have a  favorite style I guess, I just get what is personal to me.

Do you any of you guys and gals have any favorites when it comes to the style of art you prefer on your body?

I have a lot of the Polynesian tribal style on me- from my foot with the turtle and the hibiscus is tribaled into the turtle, then my right hip is a big hibiscus flower with tribal waves in the background, and on my left hip tribal turtle with hibiscus and waves. The rest of my tats are normal, a dragon, celtic knotwork of a bat, gargoyles, fairy, black rose, and an armband of waves with the ying-yang.

I like to see ones that have meaning to the person. My back tatto is 4 roses, one yellow for my husband who is a former military officer a red for me and two pink buds for our two daughters. My tat I want to get next will be me pinup style on a pole and I think hubby is going to get that one too. He has military crossed sabers on his arm since he was in the Cav division of the Armed Forces.

I have been wanting to get some tribal style turtles since our trip! But that's on the way way back burner for now.

I agree! I have heard alot of people make comments about certain styles not being cool enough, or other such unfriendly things. But I really think that if a person gets tattooed, it should be what they enjoy and what is personal to them, not what other people think is cool enough, or scene enough.

I love the old school, Sailor Jerry style of tattoos..I want most of my tattoos to be in that style. Except for one which will be in a cute manga/anime style. Damn! I need more ink! I'm hoping to get my next one ASAP. All I have so far is Nautical stars on my arm.. : (
Celtic Knotwork
I really love the 1930's flash tattoo's with the gypsy ladies and sailors. So beautiful!!!
I like mostly the pinup, rockabilly, punk type stuff.   Maori style is very impressive but on non-Maori people I just don't get the point.  But hey that's just me.  In the end it's your skin so you do what you want with it.

I have a lot of the polynesian tribal because I used to live in Hawaii, and studied the Polynesian dance form for 8 years and love the culture.

American Traditional FTW.

I do have a tribal piece, and a hot rod piece but my love is for American Traditional.

I like bright colorful pieces. No black and gray for me. The more color the better!! My cupcakes are so candy colored that I've had 4 different babies try to eat them. LOL

I love bright colorful peices too! And that is just too cute that little ones tried to eat them. Must be good work! ;)

I have a mish mash bunch of tattoos, but I have only paid £25 in total for the 7 I have! My first I got when I was 18 in memory of my cat Esme who got run over :'( it cost me £5 as my exes cousin was training to do tattooing. I then got my second at some random guys house (I met him on the internet and went to his house and got a tattoo for free, oh to be young and foolish!!!) which was free. My 3rd is my bad religion crossbuster on the bottom of my back which was half price because the guy doing it was in a car accident and couldnt make it to my appt. The rest my mate is a training tattoo artist and does them for us, I have a skull/roses/chequered print banner tattoo my boyfriend designed for me, 2 swallows and a giant koi carp up my side which unfortunately will have to go unfinished as a few lines have really blown out whilst I was pregnant and its pretty irreparable :( but Im going to get designs I have drawn done soon :) A mermaid and a ship so im going down the old skool/rockabilly/nautical theme. Im covering my legs as I absolutely HATE them and would rather have nice pictures on them if I get them out lol!
