I need to lose about 20 pounds according to my doctor. My problem is I LOVE food that is bad for me and I'm SUPER lazy. What can I do to get myself in gear and actually WANT to work out? I know so many people who love working out but I need motivation!

I want your opinions and suggestions!! :) Thanks!

Do you have a membership to the local gym?? If you do, maybe you could talk a girlfriend or 2 to join and go together. I found that is the only way I can get myself into the gym, and once Im in there its workout workout workout!! Its just a little motivational push for me to take someone. Another thing you can do is start going out for a walk maybe start by going around the block once or twice...then the next day add another round and so on. Honestly I just began going to the gym again...I feel I got a ways to go Im working on getting the last of the "babyfat" off from having my kids, and my baby is 7 yrs old!!! So dont think you are alone in the "non-motivational" part of starting. It takes time. :)
I'm the same way you are, my motivation would be to sign up at a local gym with a friend or two, I find it easier to push myself when I'm not doing it alone, & I think that's how a lot of people feel.
I have yet to sign up at the gym though, I was just forgetting or pushing it off, but now I've lost my job & can't even afford a monthly membership, ahah. So the solution to that if you don't have the extra cash for it either, would be to just do some exercising/walking in your own home or something of the sort, also with a friend or two if you'd like.
Hope I've helped, good luck!
well, what i did, was find the goal. for me at the time it was getting to see my boyfriend after 6 months of not, so i wanted to look extra nice. now, its because of a shoot i want to look good for. it also helps to think of eating unhealthy things like a slow form of suicide, very slow, but deliberate. i know, its morbid, but its true. if you eat bad things for you like loads of carbs and fast food, you will die early. and you knew that, so i consider it a slow form of suicide. so that keeps me motivated. doing what is right for my body is rewarding, i see positive changes happening, i feel better, i have more energy. so find a goal, and dont eat as much, or eat more of healthy things . go on plenty of long walks. another way to do this without starving(i didnt say not feeling hungry) is by eating lots of small meals. 5 or 6 small meals a day of healthy filling foods. limit things like pasta, breads, sugars, cheese and load up on greens, fruits veggies, whole wheats, and lean meats! make them taste good. write down everything you eat, and be mindful when you do eat . another thing i did was stop eating while being entertained, like in front of the tv or while im doing something else. if you are all there in the present moment when you eat you will feel full faster, i ganantee it. good luck, i know you can do this, it can only be good for you. muster up that will power, and do it however it amkes the most difference to you.
I totally agree with this method...it's been nine months of drinking water all day and slowly changing my eating habits. I cheat on weekends and when I'm severely PMSing so it' not so painful...lol. I'm down 15 lbs. Now if I could just start jumping on that darn mini trampoline I bought just 20 minutes a day...that would make it come off a little faster!

I like to use exercise dvds. My favorite are Carmen Electra Aerobic Striptease dvds. There are several dvds, and they are all different. They cover actual strip routines, the lap dance, a hip hop lesson, as well as other things. My favorite though is the second dvd, fit to strip. It is an actual workout that kicks my butt, but is not so hard that I can't keep up with it. You can even break the workout downs to target a specific area of the body or give yourself a timed workout for added convenience.
Lol. If only there was an easy way!!!
Don't buy it (i.e. if its not in the house you can't eat it)!
Go for the whole food (brown) option, bread, pasta, rice. It takes your body longer to break down so you feel full longer.
Try going for the Lite or low fat option of your regular brand, sugar replacement (Canderell or Splenda, can be used in home baking too).
Fidget, apparently it burns calories! Do bum squeezes when sat at your computer.
Suck it in, yes really, by about a 3rd, it helps tone your tum and after a while you do it automatically.
Also apparently we often eat when we are actualy thirsty, so try a glass of water 1st.

Is your doc saying this for your health?
I'm a UK size 12 and according to the height / weight charts about 16 pound over weight, but really would only like to be about 8 pounds lighter.
I try to go gym twice a week and go swimming once a week, still have to be sensible about food but I can have treats by doing the exercise!
Best way is do it in achievable stages so it doesn't seem so daunting and have a reason (if I loose X amount of weight I will fit this fab dress)
Good luck and don't give up if you have a bad day!
Ok just went by your page and looked at your pics, if the're upto date where are you gonna loose 20 pounds from? There don't seem to be that much of you as far as I can see!!
My good friend Elise actually did Weight Watchers before her wedding and lost 25 pounds! As far as working out goes - I am the same way. I actually started doing Pilates and LOVE it. It is relaxing, yet still a pretty intense workout. I wake up in the mornings and just feel awesome, and that feeling continues to be my motivation. And another great thing about Pilates is you don't have to do it at the gym...you can do it from your own home.

Good Luck Sweetie!
May I have those 20 pounds that you want to lose?
I just started curves last month.. and I love it.. The workout is only 30 mins long and they suggest you go 3 to 4 day a week.. The trainers are awesome and the all women gym is so much fun.. I've already lost about 6 pounds and water is my new best friend..

=)Val
I have tonssss of opinions and ideas, I'm a personal trainer. What people have said so far is great. Everyone is different and you have to find what works for you, are you a person who needs a lot of discipline? Do you need more leeway? Do you need a laid out plan that says exactly what to eat?
No matter what, the basic ideas are eat often, eat less, eat cleaner, drink water and MOVE!
I wish I had the money for a gym right now!!! Thanks everybody!
