Now I know that there are lots of discussions posted on losing weight, but I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for me. I am a 205 pound, 5'4'' young lady. I do not have anything in walking distance from me except a highway, and that's just asking for trouble. I don't drive on my own yet (thanks to being broke), so I can't join a gym or anything. But I was wondering what you lovelies could suggest. I am also a vegetarian (but occasionally include lean chicken, and seafood.. i.e., tuna, salmon, blue fish, shrimp, lobster, crab..etc.). I live with my fiance, and his work schedule has thrown off our active schedule. We end up staying up till early morning and sleeping till late afternoon on his days off. If anyone has any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You don't have to stop eatting bread but if you do eat it you want to eat more whole grain with fiber and protein

No bread? I don't drink soda, and the only time I have to eat with my fiance is after 8pm. I know I shouldn't, but it's the first time he gets to eat somedays. Well. I think I can try the no eating after 8pm, but bread? I might die haha.
Thanks though.

Start off simple: no bread, no soda, no eating after 8pm, and LOTS of water. Eat more steamed veggies, and include flax in your diet. Lastly, build muscle, as they BURN calories, even during rest. Good luck.
Agreed. I eat whole wheat bread with flax seeds in it so that's not a "bad" food. It actually helps you feel full throughout the day. Eating carbs is ok actually, as long as it's whole grain. Don't focus too much on how many pounds you're losing a week...just eat healthy and be active and your body will change over time. I'd suggest eating more vegan meals. If you can get these books "Garden Of Vegan", "Vegan a Go Go", "Skinny B****" etc...and if there's anyway you can get to a pool, go swimming! You'll burn up calories and build some muscle without even noticing.

I know they're expensive but have you thought of getting a Wii console? The more active games on that, like Wii Fit and Just Dance, are great work outs. Plus, the Wii Fit is also like a personal planner that keeps a track of your exercise, your BMI (although never really trust your BMI) and how healthily you are losing weight. Just Dance is also hilarious fun and a great workout, although I'd advice drawing the blinds because I've had some weird looks from the neighbours as a flit around to MC Hammer xD
Yeah, walking at least in the neighborhood is must! No soda, no fried foods, if you eat sweets do it in moderation i.e. just one cookie instead of 5 and stuff. I'm 5'4 and now weigh 190 when i started walking and watching what i eat i was 217 (December). I dont excercise very much. I've been able to lose weight mostly by eating better. Its myth that you can't eat after 8pm. You just can't eat about 2-3 hrs before bed. My husband works nights (6pm-3am) for two weeks out of every month so since I eat with him during the day I usually dont eat dinner til about 10...BUT i dont go to bed until 3 or 4am. Try drinking a whole glass of water before each meal to help shrink your appetite and supposedly researchers say if you chew your food at least 22 times per bite it makes your body think you are eating more than you are and you get fuller faster (not sure about that one) sign on www.sparkpeople.com and you may be able to find ppl in your community that go walking or excercise with. They also have meal plans (you can choose to omit meat or other things in the meal plans) and excercise guides to track calories and fitness. Hope that helps
Thank you guys and dolls so much for your help and input!!
I did the crossfit workout while I was in school and I loved it! But it's so hard to get motivated. And I have the Wii Console, but we don't have any room in front of the TV right now. We're in the process of moving into a smaller apartment as well, so I'm worried that I'm going to lose all ways of working out at home. Soon, I'll have my license and a car, so I'll be able to go play tennis with friends, and go out to the Lake for walks. Once I can drive I think I'll be much more excited to go do things, cause I won't have to wait until someone can take me.

Thanks again though for all the wonderful ideas!!
You lovelies are awesome!

I'm vegetarian since 2 years now.And i've lost 14kg in one year.I think you should be a true vegetarian (no meat, no fish at all) and you'll see the difference .You'll be healthier and you'll loose weight i promise Ps: sorry for my bad english
Sassy's comments are really spot on. Routine is so important. I love yoga and pilates and they transformed my body BUT I did not lose a pound - they did reshape what I had and everyone thinks I have lost weight but I have not. I did lose a couple sizes. Muscle vs. fat.
Eat as little prepared food as possible...very hard when you are on the go all day because it requires a lot of pre-planning. whole foods and lots and lots of whole grains. not processed boxes that claim to be whole grain... things where you can actually see the nuts and seeds. liquid to rehydrate when you get up and thru the day to help flush the cells. eat breakfast even if you are not hungry - it kickstarts the metabolism. I have a juicer too. try to keep some type of power bar and flavored water with me at all times so if I am running errands and am starving I can avoid having to eat something really really bad that is readily available. --GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
One of the things that work best for me is reading. I don't know if you're a big reader or not (some people aren't) but I know that if I am reading any kind of "diet" or health book, i am more likely to eat healthy and be active. Something about reading about being healthy every day makes me want to do it.

Some of my favorite books are:

Skinny B****-even if you are not veg or vegan, this is a great book!
You on a Diet- Dr Oz
I can make you thin- Paul McKenna
Food Rules- Michael Pollan

Each of these books has great advice, but you know what they say, take what you like and leave the rest.

Good luck!
