I ran cross country in Jr. High, and our coach had us do Pilates three times weekly. You are a brave, brave woman. lol. I can't tolerate that kind of endurance. I'm lazy. =0}
I generally just do a series of twist crunches every day, and that does the trick for me. They also help to work the "love handle" region. =0] If you should chance to have a small child handy, "airplane" them often. My son is always eager to make me exercise. =0D
Also, I can never stress enough how magical of an exercise swimming really is. It's a work out that you don't actually have to work for. =0p
I've been slowly training my waist with steel boned corsets as well. I'd gotten down to 22" in the past, but then got lazy and stopped wearing corsets as often as I should have. I'm now at 24" when corseted, with a natural waist of 26". Almost back down to where I wanna be!
Lots of good advice here I agree with - I like pilates belly dance and also the Argentine tango (lots of twisting) but the excercise that lost me the most inches off the waist is the 'trunk twist with a twist' = Stand with your feet at shoulder width appart and everything aligned in proper posture. Put a broom handle or walking cane or similar on your shoulders behind your neck, with hands holding either end. Then keeping your eyes facing forward the whole time - do not turn your head - twist just your upper body round to either side while pushing on the walking cane with both hands. You should feel the oblique muscles tighten. Move slowly and hold the tension on each rep , 20 a day will do it. Also remember that the tummy muscles are the easiest to tone but also the easiest to loose, so just holding them in when not excercising will help too. It doesnt matter how many situps or trunk twists you do if you spend the rest of the day slouched over a desk. For a narrower waist specifically you should hold the lower abbs in and up..visualise sucking in your lower tummy and tucking it up under your ribcage..so in and up. This will tighten the muscles without building them outwards.
As the other ladies said wearing corsets and cinchers helps too, as does colon cleansing (I prefer enemas to suppliments its quicker...I cant belive I just annouced that!!) and finally avoid fizzy drinks.
It works for me anyway, I am now an inch away my ideal measurment in just 6 months.
