I've noticed a lot of people, especially pinups and photographers, dumping myspace

now I don't use mine a lot true but that's where I get a lot of my music from as well as pinups and other ideas

so far I've held my facebook for family and friends

what's the general feel around here?
are most people just killing their myspace accounts and sticking with facebook and model mayhem?

Facebook is the norm for people you know IRL (In Real Life) and family. I'm not at all friending anyone I don't know very well on my facebook (sorry folks!) I don't ever actually USE facebook anyways, all updates there are auto generated by my PL Profile.

Myspace is done, micro networks are where it's at, networks that revolve 100% around everything you're looking for. They are the new BBS's if you will.

The time has come for people to consolidate their social footprint, and those massive clusterfucks like Myspace & friendster will be left to the spammers & creepers.

Services like Threadsy are approaching the industry from a great angle, allowing you to goto one single page for ALL your email accounts, facebook account(s), twitter account(s), and any flavor of instant messaging you could imagine, all in a single place. I've been a beta tester from the beginning and havent needed to visit any of those other sites since then. Here is a beta code to sign up ;)

very eloquent

my interests are quite diverse and I'm signed up for way to many social networks and assorted forums
I run several forums myself on assorted topics and, of course, My Favorite Pinups

I have a habit of losing track of what I've registered for ;)

thanks for the link.. I'll check it out
I too use Facebook for keeping in touch with family and friends, but Myspace is still, in my opinion, a viable resource for marketing. Whatever else you may say about it (and I know there's plenty to say about it, some of which not suitable for polite company), it's still free, and free advertising for my website isn't something I can dismiss out of hand.

And the Myspace poetry community is a pretty amazing talent pool. I realize that's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely one of mine :) So that's the other reason I probably won't ever leave.

P.S. I found PL through Myspace... ;)
I don't have a facebook, and I check myspace maybe once a week. Almost all the networking I do is here or on twitter. I don't feel like I have the time or drive to sort through all the spam/porn/b******* friend requests and bulletins. Everyone I want to talk to is in my real life or right here. Myspace just p***** me off most of the time, no I do not wanna chat with you, no I do not wanna hook up, and no I do not want to hear your crappy band.

I'll stay right here on PL where I know I want to talk to everyone.
the only reason I havent deleted my myspace account is b/c I have some friends on there that arent on FB. I was just thinking about deleting it again for the hundredth time. this is my new home here.

Allow me to briefly clarify as I'm on my iPhone. I don't mean abandon your presence there, I mean funnel your fans and new finders to a site more worth your "sweat equity". Use the many technologies to reduce or automate the work needed to maintain your profile on myspace to allow you to focus it where it counts most.
I'm on everything... i use my myspace and facebook a lot for self-promotion. i've come in contact with a lot of photographers and designers through them. plus, i get so many requests from random people who tell me how awesome they think pinup is, and how much they enjoy my pics. (those are the people we can count on for VOTES!! you have to be gracious to your supporters!) my mm and pl are mostly for self-promotion within the business. you have to understand what each is used for, but i still think all of them are valuable networking sites if you use them to their potential.
I should clarify myself as well...

I'm not getting rid of any of my accounts.. just commenting on a trend I see

I love myspace because you can personalize it so much easier. I have more friends on myspace that aren't "friends" in the sense that I really know them. I use facebook more often because I have more family and real life friends on there. I find that on myspace I've been sent more request for friends by modeling agencies and photographers. I think you should keep all sources of contact open. You never know who is out there and don't want to miss out on a great opportunity. I also look for people posting jobs on craigslist, that is how I found Dave who did my latest shoot.
A lot of people are saying myspace is lame and they're "converting" over to facebook. I personally like myspace better, but I have a facebook account for people I know IRL. However, I spend more time here on PL than facebook and myspace combined.
i kinda feel like myspace and facebook are for two totally different things. myspace is more for friends and facebook is more for family, mostly because on myspace you can add people you don't know and that is a lot harder to do on facebook unless your adding people someone else knows or something. photographers switching over to facebook are probably gonna find themselves working with a lot of the same people until someone else talks about them and looks for them because facebook is not as user friendly when it comes to people you don't know "IRL" i much prefer myspace myself and i even just recently really got that up and running, so i'm way behind. i just feel like myspace simply has more of a market for people who have a service to provide, and that's what is keeping it alive. meanwhile it seems facebook is more for people that are hooking up with old friends and such. i have a facebook but i haven't really done anything with it.
i think the last time i was on myspace was a month ago and the only reason i have it because of old friends, also it take too damn long to download with all the extra crap they put on there file. For facebook i go on everyday to talk to friends but go on PL alot more now, i think i found a new love. xoxoxoxo
