I don't know about you girls, but I have to work at keeping my body in shape. One thing I love about pinup is that it is full of real honest to goodness ladies and we are not all shaped the same. The perfect body is not required, but we all want to look our best.

The purpose of this discussion is to talk about exercise tips for the ladies targeting certain areas of our bodies!!! Let us know tricks you have learned or any crazy things you have tried in the past. :)

Skechers ShapeUps. I bought a pair last week before I left for Disney World and have worn them 3 days now. Not only are they super comfy, but they do seem to add an extra bit of workout to your walking. I'll continue to wear them when I get home anywhere I'll be doing a lot of walking.
I've been thinking about getting a pair of these, how is the pressure on your knees when wearing them??

I have been wondering about those and just haven't gotten around to buying them yet. Let us know how they turn out would ya?

This is very similar to what I do and how I feel. I have noticed a considerable increase in my motivation, energy-level, and over-all positive thought process from the boost of exercising regularly. I am normally a procrastinator, but now I seem to be much more of a go-getter and it feels really good.

I have started a huge campaign to lose weight just recently because I've gotten way too sedentary with my boyfriend who is a loving heavyset guy. I'm somewhat heavy in my photos but had gained more a short time since and decided to put an end to that as I was feeling unhealthy and not myself. I'm pretty athletic normally and enjoy a healthy lifestyle and this just doesn't feel like me.

By the time I decided to do something about this I had already recently quit sugar and caffeine mainly for health reasons at the advice of my doctor, and from that alone I shed 4 lbs as a side-benefit. Since I finally got over that HUGE hump (sweets are a huge addiction for me) and had weeks of withdrawal behind me, I decided to join a 24 hour gym they built right across the street from one of my jobs and start doing at least 30 min of cardio three times a week, along with reducing the calories in my diet. From this I lost another 3 lbs very quickly.

I decided with that success to really amp up the volume & to set a goal of 15 more lbs by January 15th & get a trainer to help me meet the goal as a support, because I knew I just wasn't going to get to the weight lifting in without one. So I now train with him 3 days a week until I meet my goal and will cut it down to 2x a week after that.

Resistance exercise is highly calorie burning and is essential to avoid osteoporosis and muscle-loss when you are older, so I think it's a must for my program.

In addition to the trainer, I do 45-60 minutes of cardio a day or 30-45 minutes on the days I train with him. I feel the stair climber is the best for me because I really feel the exertion from it and it is a great way to keep in shape for backpacking, which I'd like to do more of and keep in shape for.

Food-wise I count calories and try to eat only nutrition-containing and whole foods, and eat about 4-5 meals of 200-300 calories a piece, trying to keep the total under 1,110 calories a day, which is right for my height.

I think it's really important not to eat too little so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and start to lose muscle, but really watch those calories because unless you know your input and output you will have variable results.

ALSO, it's amazing how much MORE motivated I am in my life and how much more I get done in general now that I'm doing this. Time was always a problem but I am now feeling that time is somehow expanding for me because of my renewed motivation. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen.
I used to run a lot last year. 3-4 times a week, and when i weren't in the mood for running,
i'd walk a longer round while listening to my favorite rock songs on my ipod.
I felt great, and my weight were healthy and exactly where i wanted it to be.

Unfortunately my immune defence isn't the best, and when fall came
I got cold almost every single time i got running, which lead to that i lost the routine and my motivation.

Now i weigh about 22 pounds more than my ideal weight.
I've tried diets, but I always end up lying to myself.
When i see results, I give up. And when i give up, i gain back the pounds again.

SO, since i can't get out and run without having a cold nowadays,
I've recently started to do 40 minutes of Pilates 4 times a week.
The first thing in the morning, before breakfast.
It's great exercise, and it makes you "exercise" while you aren't suppose
to, like when you walk (press belly into the spine, stretch the back etc).
I have the old winsor pilates VCR, and I do the ABS program and the
BUN & THIGH programme (20X20).

The days i don't, I get up on my crosstrainer for about 20 minutes,
while watching a great movie or my favorite tv-show. If you do that,
you will think of the tv-show/movie when you think of the crosstrainer.
And you'll be very positive of exercising on it!

I'm thinking about swimming as well... Anyone tried it as a workout?
I agree about the wii fit and all the sports games
- GREAT exercise! My friend has it, and I'm getting it for Christmas.

Last, but not least,
I recently started writing a journal about my exercises of the day.
I also write down every single thing i put in to my body.
I'm not sure yet, but I do feel that this will really help me!

Hope it can inspire someone else without motivation! :)

Ladies I want to remind us ALL that our bodies are natural living organisms and that we are not going to be perfect about working out, eating like we should, etc. Life is life, and our motivations will wax and wane. Our weight will fluxuate but we will need to learn to care for ourselves the best we can and sometimes when we are in the moment, the moment might not be so great, but learn to let go of yesterday and live in the now. If one day our body says stay in bed and nurse our cold, then that's what you should do. If the next, that means get up and run, then by all means get up and run. Our bodies were meant to carry babies and to gather food, to walk long distances, and brave cold and hot weather, etc and each and every one of us is different. Above all remember we are pin-up girls and we are unique and special in some way. The best way to take care of your body is to take care of what is between the ears.
Amen to that!

To answer your question: Yes, I swim for exercise and enjoyment whenever I can. I'm not going to freak out if I don't get to swim for awhile..after all I live in Toronto and there's not an ocean for miles here. I have to take a bus to an indoor pool so...whatever. It really is a great way to exercise because it works out the entire body and does'nt feel like a chore! If it's not something I'll enjoy I won't do it..I don't care what the latest health fads are. Anyway I can't wait to move closer to the ocean so I can bodyboard and surf as well! : )

Wow, that sounds great! : ) I would love to move nearby the ocean as well...
For now, I live in Sweden... We do have lakes, but the closest are all
slimy and filled with children splashing around during the summer.

I like swimming very much for the relaxing part, but I'm not sure I would
feel that relaxed indoors. I've wanted to try out swimming in the indoor pool
in my town for a while now, but since it's quite expensive to get
membership, i haven't dared to tried yet. That's why I asked. :)
Thanks a lot for the answer!

Hi dolls!

I was just reading thru this thread and got inspired by a lot of your postings! First thing I have to say is, losing weight is NOT an easy task (we all know this) and it is hard to stay motivated at the times were we plateau. I had a little girl about 4 years ago and I kid you not, I gained about 65 to 70 lbs during my pregnancy. I worked out on and off for 3 1/2 or so years...until one day I realized that I just need to stick to ANY routine and keep motivated in any way that I can. In about 5 to 6 months after realizing that I have lost a total of 31 lbs...I feel great and I think I look great...but I've hit my plateau! I put back on 3 lbs and am now trying any outdoor activity to stay fit and healthy! I'm not looking to be a size zero...I'm in between a size 9 & 11 and ladies I LOVE it! I love my curves! I could not of asked God for a better body!

I do cardio 5days a week and 3x a week I'll do full body strength training/toning workouts (Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip dvd 2...any excerise regimen I can find in Women's Health magazine...etc) The days I do the strength workouts I do a 10 min cardio warm up, do the circuit, and than finish with 30 min cardio...The days I just do cardio I'll go for up to 60 minutes! I've been told anything over 45 to 60 mins of moderate exercise could be a waste.

I hope the above regimen can help any of you out!!
I swear by that Carmen Electra video (Fit to Strip). It has been a world of difference in my routine and has awesome results. Combining that with some core Pilates techniques and regular cardio is varied enough to keep it interesting.

Remember girls, switch up your routine every month. Our bodies/muscles have a great memory and will get used to exercises. This is why we may see results for a period of time and then stop seeing them. Don't get discouraged, just switch it up. Keep up all the good stuff ladies! I love it!!!

I just re-read through the postings and I have to agree with the person who said that some people were meant to have a little weight on them. I think that everyone is unique with a unique shape, and some people look just fantastic because they are voluptuous. There is one pinup I'm thinking of right now who is a famous plus size pinup and she is GORGEOUS, but the name is escaping me right now.

As for me, I know what is right for my body type and the unhealthy way I feel when I have these extra pounds on. I'm not stressed over it or anything---still think I look good but know I look (and feel!) better within a certain range and with a more athletic proportion of muscle to fat. I'm having a lot of success continuing to lose and I'm about 10 lbs down and losing. Yay!

Now, you girls want to talk about aging, THAT is where I am starting to freak out a little. :-)
