Hello all my burlesque dolls, Mrs. Betty Sue has a question, I am a pinup model and i love it, but i also want to do burlesque. How and where do i begin? Any gals that want to help me with this?
I'm currently on the road into burlesque. I started off doing a one of workshop to see if it was for me and then as lucky enough to find weekly classes. Unfortunately I often have work commitments on the same evening these are held so I've had to finish with those.
I'm planning to take a 5 week course in january which I am hoping will help me along as it will cover some more indepth stuff. I have also been learning bellydancing at home and hope to do a course in that in the spring just to get a bit more well rouunded.
I think classes are great because you quickly have to lose your inhibitions about performing in front of others and even making a fool of yourself, which is a must really. A good class will not only cover the basic moves and poses but also teach you how to put together your own routine and things to consider when doing so.
If you're not lucky enough to have a lot of local classes etc then you could start of with videos, I've heard that the dvd produced by the MoB is amazing, even covers how to make your own pasties!
Also, it goes without saying that popping along to burlesque shows is a must. Not only is it a great way to get a feel for it, right down to different types of audiences you may face, but also for networking. I'm sure the lovely ladies would be able to direct you to good teachers etc.
