new logo

how do you feel about the new logo? I have discussed with a couple other people and I also saw a recent thread talking about it. I'd like to hear what y'all have to say.

I know many of you are going to prefer the original logo to this new one. The original logo was something I personally threw together in a couple days as a placeholder so that PL could go live. It had always been our intention to create something better, cleaner, and more professional. We feel like that's exactly what we've got now. We worked with a professional, very respected, really GOOD graphic designer to create this and put weeks of thought into it.
The old logo was being misconstrued by a lot of people, who assumed that because they weren't "vintage" they didn't belong. The lipstick font, classic car script, and pinstriping suggested a more truly vintage feel than PL is. The "Pinup" genre is broad to us. There's MUCH more to it than living a vintage lifestyle or dressing in vintage clothing every day. While we obviously love and appreciate classic style, we're also intrigued by the modern interpretation of vintage being explored by so many people right now (thank you, Katy Perry!). The main goal of PL is to bring ALL of these different styles and people together in one place. We finally have the branding that perfectly reflects that goal and what PL has already become: the NEW vintage.

I'm with you sir, I too personally find the zombie stuff hmm interesting, but well, things evolve right, think of all the people that think a little ink on someone is a crime.

In the end those same girls are the ones turning around and doing that drop dead glam shoot. Regardless of their love for zombies, ink, fangs,mini hats, etc, they share the passion for and draw inspiration from "Pinup"! Thus there is no better feeling in the world than to be a part of giving them all a place to call home.

Personally when I hear the word Pinup I think of the glamourous photos of the past. These days Pinup seems to have strayed way off course. What is so glamourous with all these gore and zombie photos. Also a lot of photos are photoshopped to death.(which is a discussion I plan on introducing soon). When I was doing fashion photography the object was to make the model(and clothes) look glamourous and beautiful . Well if I'm stuck in the past I can't think of a better place to be. I'm with you Richie!

While i can appreciate the zombie stuff, I feel that it falls more into the alt/sci-fi/fetish/cos-play style. I interpret pinup the way you do. I also really prefer the original logo (although I am learning not to hate this one over time). The thing I love about this site is the retro-factor. If we make PL into something broader, everntually we will be barraged by scantilly-clad explicit bikini-shots of skinny tanned blondes with long hilighted hair. No disrespect to those ladies (I have been labelled that way in the past), but there are a million other sites I could visit if I wanted to see that.

I have to say that the new logo reminds me a little of 70s porn...I'm sorry!

it reminds me of teeny boppers and japanese porn anime. the site continues to change over and over again and it seems the consensus of the membership (which makes this place exist) is not deemed "important" when considering changes.

Couldnt have said it better myself!!!!! The RETRO factor is what makes this PL. Zombie and goth stuff is just a small part that I think doesnt go with the rest of the site.

I'm sorry point it out again where it was stated that this was "OnlyOriginalVintageCheesecakeLifestyle.com?" Pinup was chosen for its broadness. Pinup is to Style what "Electronica" is to Music. Below that umbrella there are a million subgenres/subcultures.

Perhaps I would understand more if you were in some form mislead. However that is not the case, and the site remains free and as always people have been free to come and go. PL cares more about what the people think than you will ever know. Did you know I reached out personally to every single person that has ever left the site to get feedback? And that the feedback was applied? How come you as the representative of a consortium of totally upset members we didn't know existed, never provided feedback to any of our "Change" or "Update" blog posts where we announce all the changes coming? We continue to grow with the same vision we had for it 150+ days before launching it public. And we grow now faster than we ever have.

We never set out to please everyone because we understand it cannot be done. BUT, we're here to give everyone a home, to build a community, to inspire, to educate, and more importantly, TO SHARE ones expression of what is retro inspired to them. We've proven our ability to do this. Our direction has not changed a single degree, we've simply focused on the end goal with a team of professionals we trust at our disposal in the back end.


This thread is now closed, it's derailed from logo feedback into opinions about artistic style. This poses a risk of insulting people who contribute those types of work to the community keeping it strong and positive.

But don't take my word for it, I invite anyone to open up any random page of our photo gallery. I would say all our content meshes very well...
