hey ladies, can you help me add some life into my boring hair?? it's mid back length, and dirty dishwater blonde. it's fine texture but thick (lots of it). it's all one length and no layers or bangs. the boyfriend really doesnt want me to cut it length wise so I am thinking either maybe some bangs or color. I have to stay fairly conservative because I work in a conservative office. I really really like the streaks some ladies have on here in the front because it really makes the rolls *pop*.

Anyone have suggestions?

As everyone knows I'm the queen of color, so that's what I suggest. Changing the color is a great, easy way to bring new life to your hair. Since you need to keep it conservative (you poor thing!) but you like the streaks, how about brown and blond? Or dark blond and platinum. Also, a trim, even just a few inches can really make a difference. As for your boyfriend not wanting it shorter, it's hair, it grows back, you should do what will make YOU happy, not anyone else. Just remember, no matter what you do, it will grow back. Nothing is forever, so play with it, have fun, and post pictures!!
Roxy, you are my Goddess of cool hair! I adore your purple so much. Back in the day before I had an uber conservative job, i used to have pink and white striped hair. Man it was fun!!!
I love these styles so much...

oooh what if I did some kind of semi permanent color to try it?? Anyone have experience with that?
I agree- go for the color! Bangs are a big comitment. I just grew mine out, which can take what feels like an eternity, only to miss them and cut them again. If you're looking for some cute ways to roll your hair- see if you can find the movie "Princess O'Rourke" with Olivia D'Haviland, its a gold mine.
thanks dear. you think the brown as well? i think thats probably the best to start with maybe a medium brown? if i go lighter i think my poor fried hair will just give up and fall out. ideally i would love to have red but i should start slowly and build up considering the people at work.
bangs are a big commitment and i dont know if they would look ok on me or not.

I say if nothing else at least go with a colour panel. You're right they make the hair *pop* and at the moment (at least in the UK) its seems its still quite a pin-up thing and not too mainstream. And I think that within reason you could get away with this in a conservative office?

Until recently I had red hair with a blonde panel, but then I got my hair styled differently and lost the panel in favour of going blonde all over, but I plan on putting back in a panel over the blonde, probably in bright pink or something.
oh that sounds just darling! do you have any pictures?
also, i think if i start with sort of neutral safe colors than it should be ok.
i wonder though how far to go across? just a corner? 2/3 of the way across? the whole front?

I have pics of how it used to be and how it currently is (which includes some red/brown on the short side) on mypage. Hopefully going all blonde next week and then popping the panel back in where it used to be.

If you do go for a brown I think that can be just as effective as red, especially a nice rich colour, maybe a mahogany colour? Alternatively you could lighten the blonde a little and put a darker coloured panel in?
