Need Some Advice! Please help!

Hey! So I really need help with my hair because it's very thick and wavy...basically it drives me crazy! It's all grown out and gross now. It's a few different colours too, blonde, red and dark brown roots. I really, really want a pin up retro style hair but have NO idea how to pull it off. And as far as I know there are NO hair stylists round here that specialize in that sorta thing. So what do you suggest for colour and cut? I'm open to new ideas and advice here.

But thanks for the advice. I will NEVER dye my hair brown. I HATE that colour, it's my natural hair colour and I find it BORING. Plus I wear glasses so I'll look like a librarian. NOT the look I'm going for. I'd love to have a Marilyn Monroe- Jayne Mansfield look if possible. But I think I should stop bleaching my hair blonde for a bit...maybe I'll go red.
You say you never cut hair just to look retro but isn't that what most of your clients want? Just wondering...
Oh and you don't have to see my hair in person to know it's MASSIVE look at my pics. It takes people like 2 hours to cut it when I go get it cut.

Reds are a fantastic color for retro looks! This is a great option for you, in my opinion. I would try to stay away from the box colors if at all possible. You will be so much happier with a professional color and a unique red chosen for you! Plus, a professional color line also may restore some goodness to your hair...and shine. :)
If you have a stylist that you see on occassion or regularly ask them to look into something called RUSK Anti-Curl. This is an excellent product to reduce frizz and give your curls/waves a "chill pill". It is not permanent but last about 3 months. I have had great success with Rusk anti-curl for ladies with troubles such as yours. It is not a cheimcal straightner! It is not harsh like a chemical straightner....so this could be an excellent option for you. Your hair will still be thick, of course......but not as un-ruly or "BIG"!
As for your concern/question with your haircut, if you plan to wear a retro look daily.....styled daily.....then, yes in my opinion you do want a haircut to accomodate that. First, I suggest you look for a style that suits your lifestyle and the amount of maintenance you'd like on a daily basis. So, for example: say you decide that you are going to go all out Rita hayworth style with the red hair and the curls.......well, you now know that the haircut needs to have layers to accommodate for those curls. You need the correct layers to have proper curl placement/formation. Now....with that, you will want to consider that without your hair being styled daily it may not look as good. Since your haircut was cut to accomodate your hairstyle. Which is absolutely nessessary in my opinion for a retro look. But, it all depends on the look you desire.

I'm adding to my previous post, haha! I just took a look at your photos. And I'm not sure how current the photos are but i did want to say that if your hair is "frizzy & big" due to over-bleaching, that is damage that cannot be repaired. There are some products i can reccomend to help however!
What I may suggest is get a good, even, professional color done. Then let it keep growing out, let the new healthy hair grow in and slowly trim off the damaged hair, til its gone.
Remember....even if you color over your bleached hair 20 times, there is still bleached hair underneath! So, be careful when re-applying bleach over these areas.
Anyway, I just wasnt sure of the frizz/big hair was due to damage or it is naturally like this.

Oh ok...I'm totally ignorant about haircuts, styles and whatever else to do with hair. All I know is I can run to Shopper's Drug Mart (a big store around here) and grab a box of bleach then go home and bleach out my dull dark hair. Brown be gone! Yes, I'm quite passionate about it. : P
People are always telling me "Oh you should stay natural, just stay with dark brown. It'll look nice."
My answer: No, no and NO!!! lol
I think the frizz is partially from the over-bleaching and partially natural because I do have wavy hair. It's kinda a chicken and egg issue...which came first hmm...
So anyway I had NO idea the models wanted "versatility" like that. I just see the pics and read the blogs about how they always dress up and I imagine them with the perfect hair and outfit 24/7, 365 days, of every friggin year. Meanwhile I can't get it together to look like that most weekends...

Thanks for the tips..I'm gonna have to find that stuff for anti-frizz. I hope it's not too expensive. And the Rita Hayworth suggestion is really good too considering she was Hispanic like me. It's probably more realistic for me then Monroe. Gracias!

I used to do the same thing as you, bleach blonde then bright red, Back and forth all the time!
it was like this for about 7yrs!! im right now really happy with my hair...i went to REALLY dark brown and it long to my hips...but has layers to thin it out.
Once i stoped and pick my color i stayed ..my hair is in better conditon...also try to change the way i wear it and style it more than changing the color and cut

i used to think brown was UGLY>>>BOrING but i love my hair super dark and glossy and it sooo much easier to care for now

M'ija listen to me...Come to Ottawa and get your hair did! Failing that...red is good, but plum or mahogany, or burgandy is even better with your colouring. Less boring than brown, but rich and dark enough that your roots won't be attrocious when they come in. Ask for a 180degree layered cut. (awesome for rollersets)

But again, I'm with Pin-ups Hair Design, get yourself a good in-person consultation with a professional. Ask some of your local T-dot PL-gals with good hair who they see.

The lady who does my hair is amazing.. She's a good friend of mine and I have hair EXACTLY like yours.. every stylist I have been to has been thrown off by how much hair I have, seriously.. to be exact the phrase is "Oh my god, you have so much hair!" and it's frizzy and annoying, and now that I have bangs (for the first time since kindergarden) I have to take care of it and straighten them after I shower and such.... But yes, her name is Sherry and she works at a salon called Harlots at Queen and Bathurst (west on Queen to just past Tecumseth on the north side of Queen)
