"We Are The New Vintage"
Greetings to all...
I hope everyone is springing graciously into summer as I am.
I joined here because I have a specific project which has been nagging at me for a while. I have been I guess what you might call a hot rod enthusiast, since 2007 - as I inherited a wonderful 1929 Ford Model A "Mutt Rod" from my father. I had it restored and have won "Best of Show" awards for the car in two states so far. It was photographed by the notorious Viva Van Story for Car Kulture Deluxe for an article which I wrote on the car which was published there. Viva was unfortunately in between pin up shoots and no pin up models were available the day of the shoot. So she simply photographed the car. It's long, detailed and can be quite boring if you are not a hot rod enthusiast - but the restoration story is here, www.indiefinancialnetwork.com/hotrod.html - but for Viva's photos - which are for the finished car - you have to scroll and scroll and scroll down to near the bottom.
I am also an aging musician/bass player in a rather notorious progressive rock band called "Happy the Man". We were going to be Peter Gabriel's back up band when he left Genesis. The best website is here; www.everythinghappytheman.com and there are music clips and everything that you need to get a feel for what that is. It's not rockabilly or retro or even the kind of music that you might hear at a car show, but i have been custom building and collecting medium scale basses for a number of years. There are a couple of new ones on the way, but the basses are here if you would like to see them: www.innertainment.net. They are all works of art, and very valuable one of a kinders.
What I would like to do is feature a very tasty, maybe R rated - at the very least very sexy no nude calendar - featuring pin up girls holding and being delighted by the guitars. I would see the models in a wide variety of compelling poses - obviously one for the cover and twelve more for the months of the year. Ultimately, it would be great to have 13 models. I would also like to feature the "Mutt Rod" on the cover as part of the back drop and maybe in one of the months on the calendar. I am certainly not adverse to and I love the idea of using other cars as long as they are completely period specific - and at least as cool as mine - as in pre 1960.
OK, so I am an idea man - I don't really know where to start in pulling this off. First of all, except for Viva, who also models - I don't know 13 pin up girls. I would also be delighted to give some new models a shot - and I actually like the idea of having models who maybe haven't really appeared many other places. My office and the car are located in Briatcliff Manor, New York. I have no idea what that might cost, and I don't have a location to shoot this - but ultimately it would be great to have a completely different retro "garage" setting for all 13 photos. I can dream can't I?
My thinking is - and maybe I am way off base (bass) on this - but I think the calendar would be a huge hit at the music stores. There have probably been thousands of guitar calendars over the years, but I don't know of a single bass guitar calendar - especially with custom basses of this caliber instead of run of the mill beat up Fenders. I am thinking that I can get this in all the major bass magazines and I will probably have to give away hundreds to the music stores to get the ball rolling.
So am I completely nuts? I have the idea, but I don't have any idea what the budget might be or what I might need to help me with this. If I had the ability to put together a ball park budge, I know several companies who publish this sort of calendar thing. I don't like the idea that the project will have a shelf life, but I don't know what other format might work to both display these incredible instruments along with this very special car. . I know it would be a fun project - and although I am perfectly happy being the mastermind/overseer of the project - I need so much help with this....
So if any other idea people are out there - who have much more of a sense of where I should start in realizing this dream, I am all ears. i am not even sure what forum heading this should be under, so I f i have made any mistakes, please let me know how I might correct them.

Making a calendar is pretty easy. We have many people here on the site who do them every year. I'm sure they can help with the details. When you are ready to start casting girls, cars, photographers etc. please post it in the Castings section. You can find it in the menu bar at the top of every page. Good luck!
Hi! I run a group in CT and we host our own pinup shoots. I have an amazing hair and makeup artist and awesome photographer on board, and we have lots of models interested in doing shoots. I would be willing to talk to my artists and some models about maybe teaming up for your project. If you'd like to check out our work, our profile on here is Connecticut Pinup Page. For all of our photos and updates you can visit www.facebook.com/CTPinupPage. Feel free to email ctpinuppage@gmail.com if you'd like to discuss a collaboration, I might have some other ideas to supplement the calendar as well. -Stephanie :)
Hello
I probably was't very clear in re-reading my post. What I really need to do I think - is get a ballpark budget together so I can submit the project to my friends in the publishing world who do calendars. I would prefer to get this funded, and explore other options only if and when I need to.
Is there a way of putting together a budget for something like this? 13 girls, great location(s), great photographer(s), hair, make-up, retro clothes. Sorry, but I don't live in this world and I have no idea what the going rate is for shoots like this. Is it a day, two days, three, maybe more?
Any help anyone here could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Rick
