Last year was my first Viva, and I totally didn't know what to expect. From the music, activities, workshops and vendors, I felt like a chicken with my head cut off! I didn't have a plan or strategy to get the most out of my experience. I was running all over the place trying not to blink. But this year is going to be different!

My goals for Viva: stay near the hotel, pack smart so I can shop shop shop, be on time for everything! (I don't want to miss a thing), dance my butt off, enjoy all the bands I can, make some friends, take tons of photos, and shop some more :)

Before you know it, April will be here and 4 days of fun will commence. What are you doing to get ready?

SAME HERE!!! My first time....i was overwhelmed...to say the least! i missed a few things this year i am going to make a game plan!! your ideas sound great! im saving money so i can actually buy the stuff i want from the vendors! i want to dance and make friends too! I already started making a packing list as silly as it sounds. I have to now i know what it is all about so i can be easily prepared!!!

Jess

Yay, Jess!!

I need to save too! There were some many vendors, and lovely things. Packing lists aren't silly, they are necessary! Lol :) I really overpacked last year and that didn't leave me much room for bringing home goodies. I'm creating a theme for myself so my packing will be easier and more focused.

Last year I was filming the whole time and hardly got to enjoy Viva at all. I went shopping on the last day 2 hours before my flight and saw 2 bands. However, I made some amazing friends, and strengthened old friendships, so it was totally worth it.

I have two trips in Feb (rockabilly reunion and Disneyland) so I feel like I need to concentrate on those before I start planning for Viva. However, I am starting to collect ideas for the outfits I want made, and will be getting together with my seamstress to work on that soon.

I always have a packing list (or 3) and a theme or color scheme for my outfits when I travel. I have some great packing tips on my website, and follow them every time I travel (which is all the time). I've got it down to a science now!

VLV15 will be my sixth time going, and I've yet to ever see all of the bands that I plan to! Smartphones and Google Calendar have definitely made scheduling easier over the years, though. I've already started blocking out what/where/when, and I've learned to accept that I am guaranteed to miss something that I wanted to catch. I was really ticked to miss out on Wanda Jackson at VLV13 (the room was at capacity), but she came through town last year and I was able to catch her at a more intimate venue. Things have a way of working themselves out. :)

I always make a visual guide of what I plan to wear on which day, all the way down to underpinnings and jewelry; it helps with packing (not too much, not missing anything) and makes getting dressed every day or for a specific event a snap!

I'm headed to disneyland in February too! (Dapper Day on the 5th) what is rockabilly reunion?

Ooo! I hadn't thought about visual aides for what I have packed. I may need to steal that, lol!

I have a spreadsheet where I break everything down to which bra and what stockings, but the visual guide is more slapdash. Here's what one day (Saturday: car show, burlesque contest) looks like. And no, I never did get to the pool that day.

Love this!!!!! I'm a visual person, I usually imagine my outfits before I piece them together, so this is right up my alley. And it looks like fun to create. And the spreadsheet, is genius because it doubles as a packing check list I'd imagine, so you make it back with everything you brought.

Thanks for sharing :)
