over the past couple of years I've been looking for a tap set (aka knickers, french panties, french knickers, etc etc etc) for my wife Anne

Back in the day they were available at Victoria's and Fredrick's but have fallen by the way side in favor of boyshorts

 

well I hit youtube and an ad came up that had a model in a tap set... so off I trot credit card at the ready....

 

yea they want $82 for just the bottoms and another $98 for a cami

I get that it's silk... but I can't see spending close to $200 for a set

I'm sorry.  :)  But at least they will be good quality and both of you will get to enjoy them.  Better than $82 for a pair of britches when you can get 2-3 pair for that.  :)
