First shoot? Go simple!

Thats the best advice I can give. It will take you many many shoots to feel comfortable. Even now, when Im using a new photograher...I still keep it simple. You don't want to be stumbling over 8 different looks with elaborate themes while your still trying to get to know one another. Its going to be akward, but photographers understand and are usually glad to let you test the waters at first. My first shoot just happend out of nowhere on a street. It lasted about an hour in the same outfit I had been wearing. I saw the pictures and was like, "what am I doing with my face?" "why did i have my arm there?" "I look retarded!" But thats so normal! Thats what you are supposed to do...over analyze yourself..its what all girls do

What I learned from my first 10 shoots wasn't what to wear, but what to do. You want to save your best ideas for when you feel confident. So like I said, go easy on yourself! Do a simple picnic scene, bath tub, or pool shot. Its summer, make it fun!

Hope I helped a little!

It's all in the face! Don't be afraid to try silly faces.
Point your toes!
Wear something that shows off the natural curves of your body (lingerie, bathing suit, fitted dress)
False eyelashes make a great difference.

=)
Try a Coca-Cola doll shot! You'll have a cool prop to take some of the attention of perfection and some nice poses would come to you naturally. Remember to just have fun and let the photographer snap away, exaggerate body movements to achieve nice lines.

to elaborate, holding the bottle will take some of the pressure off needing to figure out what to do with your hands, mastering hands/fingers. From looking at hundreds of thousands of photos, hand positioning must be one of the hardest things for a model to do.
thanks so much for all the advice and ideas so far! really is helping!
Hahaha! Edson so true! It goes for more than just photoshoots though. When Im at an event on stage, I almost always end up recreating this scene:

"I don't know what to do with my hands..." Sorry, I'm not helping, just laughing. Thats a good start though! Have fun and laugh it off.

HAHA! That part always makes me LOL!

I just did a cola doll shoot in my living room. It was fun and as someone said, having a small prop like that helped. I think it was having a message, "Enjoy Coca Cola" that helped the most. I didn't feel so silly making faces/striking poses because the whole point was to exaggerate how delicious the drink was. If that makes sense, haha.

Have fun!
I agree with this statement. Many many MANY models have trouble with hand placement. Not just the models, but the photographers do as well! A lot of folks don't know what to do with their hands, so having something to hold makes it MUCH easier. A beach ball, a parasol, a Coke bottle, a puppy, those are ALL fantastic props (not to mention they add to the "cute" factor!) The best thing to do is PRACTICE! makes faces at yourself in the mirror, play with hand placement on your hips, face and legs, see how it looks.
Just remember: keep your shoulders back, and don't be afraid to play with faces and poses!

Take it from a photographer pick a theme a costumes that you can have fun with. Talk with the photographer about your ideas ( a good photographer will always listen) and can help with makeup and hair styling. Try to flirt with the camera, you can get better facial exprecitions by saying words with the letter "O" in them. and always have fun. Check with your photographer about having a friend come with you for support and help you with props and costumes. I have a lot more advice but not enough room to type
My friend will be doing the hair and make up which is handy for support.
Thanks for the advice. Kinda settling my nerves now
I understand about the nerves! You are going to do great girl. One tip that has helped me achieve a true happy smile is to think of something really funny. If I don't do this, it looks like my smile is fake and posed.
