Blackberry or Palm phone???

I'm a total newb when it comes to these smart phones!! I just reached my "new-every-two" (a new phone every two years) with Verizon and qualify for some pretty nifty phones for a very very minor fee ($10-$50). I know most people have iPhones, but Verizon doesn't carry them, so PLEASE DON'T SAY IPHONE =P

I can choose from a selection of Palms, Blackberry's, and HTC's though I've never heard of HTC phones (and the Droids are out of my price range, *tear*). The best of the Palms I can get is the Palm Pre Plus, and the best of the Blackberry's I can get is the Blackberry Curve 8530. What do you think??? What do you have and love?

p.s. Let me also add that I don't really care about being on the cutting edge of phone technology. If I did care, I wouldn't be looking at bargain phones =P As I mentioned, I'm a newb when it comes to smart phones. I've had and loved my LG Dare for 2 years now, but I've dropped it a lot so it's pretty scratched up and starting to have a little malfunction here and there. I don't need tons of apps (probably wouldn't get them even if I had the option) or crazy web browsing abilities (costs money to browse web on my plan). Honestly I use my current phone mostly for texting, photos, and occasionally plug in my earphones to listen to music while in a waiting room or something. If I could email from the phone, that might be cool, and maybe take video, but I don't need a crazy 'does-everything' machine! I need a good functional phone with a couple cool additional features.

Please, NO IPHONES! I am on Verizon, that is that. Also personally, I don't like Apple products. No iPod, iPad, or iPhone for me, thanks.

Also, I'm not kidding when I say I can't afford the droids. I am holding two jobs and an unemployed boyfriend and barely making rent. We eat ramen noodles and frozen corn dogs every single day (I am not exaggerating). I cannot afford to spend all my food money on a fancy phone.

So the question remains Palm or Blackberry?

my wife has a blackberry and I have a palm
since I'm the tech in the house I get to work on both..

my preference is the palm for these reasons:
1) screen crispness
2) battery life
3) facebook and twitter apps look better (my opinion)
4) the included e-mail app is more powerful and easier to use
5) there is a cool included app that allows the pre to act as an 802.11 wireless access point maybe on the pixi as well

I'm on verizon as well btw

I just switched from a windows based samsung phone and was torn between the HTC, blackberry and palm...

after a lot of research the palm won

oh one downside.. the keys on the palm pre keyboard are tiny so it takes some getting used to..
my hands are pretty huge but I got it after a couple days of texts

My boyfriend has a Blackberry. It's always loading new updates, and when it does, it freezes up for hours on end.
This is actually his second Blackberry, his first one only having lasted a few days before it just died at random and wouldn't restart.
He is on Boost Mobile's network, so maybe Verizon's Blackberrys will have better luck.
I'm on Verizon as well, and am actually considering getting a Blackberry, all the problems he's had with his set aside. I love the full physical keyboard. I can't stand touch screens!

My samsung was a touch screen and the kybd drove me nuts..
the palm pre has a slide out keyboard for typing and a touch for dialing

I had an iphone, and i lovvved it! But i had to switch over to Verizon, and now i have an HTC1 and i hate this phone! the touch screen is no wheres close to the iphone touch screen!
I want a new cell already! lol deep down i really want my iphone back!

I have a Blackberry and overall I am very happy with it. It can freeze up sometimes when it loads new updates, but mine has never done that for more than a few minutes. My vote is Blackberry!
