New horror movie? About a vintage asylum? I HELLA can't wait to check this out, anyone else with me? The website (www.shutterisland.com) says that it is a "story about 2 US marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the Islands fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane."
Sounds BADASS. I'll come back and post my thoughts after I catch it next week. Anyone seen it already? What did you think?
It got bad reviews in the papers here but I don't care! I'm gonna go see it with a friend next week. She's excited about it because she's a big J.E.H fan. That's Jackie Earle Haley for the unintiated..she's had a crush on him since Watchmen. Personally, I wanna see the inside of an insane asylum during the 50s and Leo going nuts. : P
Went to see it yesterday and I gotta admit I was kinda disappointed.
Not to say that it was a bad movie, it just wasn't what I was expecting. The previews and synopsis made it out to be a badass thriller/horror flick when it reality it was kinda.... artsy. The cinematography was interesting, I especially liked the use of light to put you into the shoes of Leonardo DiCaprio. And while I the score itself wasn't terrible; there were points in the film that the music seemed so disjointed with what was happening on screen, swelling and falling during moments that just seemed inappropriate.
I'd like to see it again (though I won't be paying 15 bucks a ticket this time) to catch all the things I might have missed by being in the wrong mindset.
If only the hype machine had left this alone, I could have waited for the DVD and seen something else... like The Crazies... but that's next week. :D
