Pinup girls with NO tattoos??

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't quite sure. Anyway, I'm very torn on the subject of tattoos, and one of my friends told me that you cannot be a pinup with no tattoos. I disagreed. While i'm not totally against the idea of getting one, I don't think it's completely necessary to complete the look either. I gave him the example of Bernie Dexter for instance, who yes...has a few, but isn't all tatted up either. What do you all think?

this is why i'm so happy to have found this site. i love that pinups can all be so different. and this place gives us all a chance to see that and to find other people to connect with. i don't even know how to word what i'm trying to say, but this place makes me more comfortable exploring with my look to get it just perfect to what I AM. it shows me that I don't have to fit a certain mold, or just look at a picture and copy a certain pinup model, i can do me, and still be a pinup in my own way, however i choose. so thanks so much! <3

I have no tattoos (I escaped dating piercers and tattoo artist in the past unmarked- HAH!) for a few of reasons.

I've designed things I want, but I don't like the idea of being permanently branded with a certain style. Tattoos I liked as a teenager through now have changed along the way, and I don't want to feel like I boxed part of my skin into a particular style.
For example, when I want to look ultra-feminine (or when I have had to look "normal" at times), I'm glad I don't have that Misfits Crimson Ghost skull on my bicep that I coveted at 14, although the juxtaposition of such things can be interesting.

I feel like I'd never feel naked enough with tattoos. You can't take them off.

I've seen what they do over time. No thanks.

My brother has enough for both of us. I can design them for him (and have) when I feel like making permanent wearable art.

Besides, my momma would cry. ;)

I don't have any at all and I have no intention of getting any. In fact, for the photos I do, no tatts works better, because I tend to do more ""classic" shoots.

I really like that about pinup modeling, there are so many different types of women.

Sometimes I wish I had more tattoos, because I feel like that's what sells at this point. But don't feel like its necessary to have them. I've seen many beautiful, classic pinups that have none at all! You can hardly see mine in photos so I don't think it really affects being a pinup or not. Granted, my boyfriend works in a tattoo shop and I met my photographer through him. It's all about networking, but tattoos are not a requirement! Good luck :)

I would be willing to assist you in the slapping of the friend if you like. If we all do it, it will look like he has a slap mark tattood accross his flesh!

You don't need to have tattoos to be a pinup....and getting tattooed just because other models are tattooed is the wrong reason to get tattooed. The most beautiful and original thing you can do is just be you, tattooed or not.

I love both the "classic" look with virgin skin and the alterna-pinup with tats all over! Like the others are saying, there is room for every type of pinup!

Thats always confused me. Weren't the sailors the ones with tattoos, not pinups? People ask me all the time why I dont have any tattoos, especially since I dated a really well known tattoo artist, and I just say " I want my photos to look like they actually could be from that era and if I had tattoos it would be obvious they are modern photos"

maybe for the "modern model" of pinup it's ok... but I prefer pinup models without tattoos. In fact, I believe that women look better without tattoos... I dunno, maybe it's just me but, can you imagine Tempest Storm with Tattoos? :P what if Alberto Vargas was a tattoo maniac? hahaha! no way! clean skin in my opinion! I really like tattos but no in the skin of a pinup model. BTW I agree with the comment of Candace Campbell...

Some magazine won't even accept you if you have tattoos, you do not by any means need to have them..I agree with everything daddy cool had to say.
