I have two heros in the world, lots of people I look up to and admire, but only 2 heros...My Gramps and Elvis.

I had a very rough childhood growing up, but when my family didn't have anything but a roof over our head and a little bit of food - we always had music. Whether it was coming out of the record player or my Gramp's sax...there way always music, and when there's music...there's happiness. My Gramps introduced us to the greats - Wanda, Johnny, Richie, Buddy, Roy, Jerry, Fats and Frankie - who remain to this day some of my all time favorite artists. But...there was one artist who had me movin' before I could even walk...Mr. Elvis Presley. There are endless pictures and videos of me crawling over to the speaker and rocking to the music, dancing on my Gramp's feet and shakin' my tiny little hips to my Gramp's playing his tunes on the guitar. My Gramp's would play at a local casino on the weekends...and against my mom's will would let me sit backstage...and would always be sure to throw an Elvis cover in there and send a little wink my way..and still to this day he plays at the casino, and if ever I am in the audience he'll play an Elvis cover and send a little wink my way.

Sure he's talented, handsome and reeking of sex appeal...but the real reason I love Elvis so much...

When I forced to grow up faster then I should have...his music let me dance, sing and dream.

So thank you Elvis - for giving me the music to dance, sing and dream to.

And thank you Gramps - for letting me dance, sing and dream.

(Gramp's is the one right in front - gettin' ready to sing.)
*Note: sorry for the cheezy blog rant - I just got off my weekly phone call with Gramp's...feeling a little sentimental!* :o)

Your grandad sounds awesome :)

My dad raised me listening to all the "oldies". We used to listen to the Classic Gold when we were out driving in his truck and I didn't realise until I was a few years older that the music on that radio station wasn't current, lol. Had a huge impact on me even so.

We should get out gramdpa's together, Mine is a wild, crazy silly harmonica player that is more lively than half the 20 year olds I know. You wouldn't beleive he was over 80 years old. He such a wonderful creative person and he inspires me each time I get the chance to be around him.
