Whenever I have a "pin up" shoot, I always ask myself the same question; what exactly is pin up style? It seems to be such a wide range of things. Anything can really be called "pin up". I guess when I think of a specific style, I think back to the 40's and 50's. I think back to the Ava Gardner and Betty Grable days. They were the classics.
How do you make that translate to a photo? Well, I'm just starting to learn, but what I have picked up so far is that it's not about the obvious things. I don't think that it's necessarily about the victory rolls or the garters delicately holding up seamed stockings (which never hurts, btw). I think it's about the little things. It's the pose and the attitude. It's the face. I got into pinup originally, not only because I love the era and style, but because I was told that I have "the look". Well, after meeting other pin up girls and seeing their style, I think that anyone can have "the look". It's your look that makes you unique and that will make you stand out from the crowd. All you need is the attitude. And you need confidence. That's very important.
So, with all of that said, what do you wear to a pin up shoot? I usually wear something I can show off (garters, cute panties) and something that one can imagine being taken off (stockings, a sexy corset). I am definitely still learning, and I am lucky that I have a friend (Bella Blue, she's on here, too!) to help me out. She has been an awesome guide on my "pin up adventure". Ok, I digress.
I also love dressing up and playing a part. If you look at my pictures, you will see that I have done a few "military themed" shoots. That's because one of my best friends is in the army and he told me that the people fighting over in Iraq (and other places abroad) appreciate any support they can get. It's something small, but it's my way of paying a little tribute to my friend and his military buds.
;)
