What's your favorite? What pieces are essential under your vintage and retro dresses?

Personally, I never wear a dress without an open bottom girdle underneath. Not only does it hold my tummy in and keep my butt from jiggling too much, it also holds up my stockings. I also like to wear a corset/cincher under tight dresses to make my waist just a little tinier.

Under high waisted pants I wear a spanks...just for that extra firmness and to keep my tummy in.

I love the merry widow from what katie did, i saw the the other day and will get one, but for the event next week-end I opted for an open bottom girdle from Crown off the girdlebound site in white, i would have got the merry widow if it came in white, or red. I'll do the girdle with a strapless bustier. And ordered it in my waist size so hopefully that will work out!

Ok fot a strapless option try the merry widdow from the What Katie Did glamour shapewear range (Scroll up to my previous comment for the link...man I sound like an agent LOL) But if you go with the long line bra and open girdle (very hot look!) go with your natural waist measurement or you will end up with a bump and maybee rolling down at the waist band. With a waist cincher you can go a size down, though it is less comfortable, it is a really nice look...both WKD and Rago (available from secrets in lace) have nice cinchers that look good with a strapless bra.

A question for you girls that wear binding garments when you order say a open bottom girdle do you actually order the size of your waist? Or do you order a bit smaller?  I've worn corsets before but never a girdle but now that I'm doing some pinup stuff I would like to start I'm wearing a dress that ties on the shoulders for the Miss Beatersville contest and I'm thinking of pairing a long bustier with a open bottom girdle to give the girls some oomph and give me a nice line. I would really prefer something all in one but haven't found a strapless one in my size yet.

Sorry if this is a bit rambly, I've been up for 23 hours :(

I'm hoping it will come together nicely for under the dress I would have loved to have one dyed red, but just didn't have the time for this event.
Oh bums, i got my kiss me deadly girdle today and it appears im a funny shape lol its a nice fit around my hips but too baggy around my waist :( i have a 42 bust 30 waist and 42 hips :( meh any help for future purchases???
for girdles, you always want to measure around your waist. here's a link to a site that I think does a great job of showing ladies how to properly measure themselves for underpinnings http://www.woods-online.co.uk/measuring.htm hope that helps! :)

With girdles you can usually go an inch or two smaller than your actual measurements. I'm on my phone, sorry 4 the short response!

And with regards to overbust corsets... should I go there or would I be better off with an underbust with having a bigger bust, theres 12" difference so If it got a 26" waist corset I dont think i'd be able to fit them in :-S

This hella made me laugh. It's ridiculous, but semi-informative..... ok really it's just ridiculous, but I love the tip about the wig glue.

I love my waist chincher with stocking suspenders. I wear it with seamed stockings under my vintage or repro outfits, even under modern stuff I can't help but feel super sexy and retro.
I love my vintage inspired shapewear! So much so that I created a blog around it. I rarely wear a dress now without some form of shapewear underneath, like an OBG or body shaper. I used to think shapewear was only corsets or waist nippers but since I started the blog I've really been getting into wearing it daily!
