SO, I absolutely love the pin up culture but I am having trouble getting in to it. I find a lot of people are not very understanding (The red lip stick, low cut shirts, and flowers in our hair) and just write it off as me/us looking slutty or like I should be working the streets. Does anyone have any advice for me? Maybe I am just having trouble committing? Should I do my hair/make-up/style differently so people will GET it?
Thanks, loves!!

I would say just find a photographer who DOES get it. I wouldn't change a thing! There are a lot of photogs who specialize in pinup.
Not vendor related, moving thread to hmmmmmm Model Suite.
You don't change a thing, sweetie, you are adorable.
Well, thank you!

I agree, your look is cute to the max, if anyone thinks thats slutty they don't know what slutty is and don't deserve to be anywhere near ya anyways. Don't change a thing, use this site as motivation to keep being yourself. And share your passion with the world right here =)
Thank you! I am just from a very small town in North Carolina. The rednecks and hill billies just don't know what to make of me, I guess.

I live in Asheville, NC which is very eclectic and a lot more open to a lot of different things but I am still in NC so I know how closed minded some of these small town country folk can be. Being in a small town to me just means you get to set the bar for pin-up in your area. Go with it!

There are a lot of photographers surrounding you though. Aren't you close to Winston Salem and Greensboro? I feel like I've seen a bunch. Check the advanced search here on PL for photogs, and maybe even Model Mayhem. Good luck sweety (and don't change what feels natural to you!)
You shouldn't change one bit. I can relate to you on this story becasue alot of people seem to think that I'm weird or even slutty but you just have to carry on. If you really love the clothes and the lifestyle, then you should just keep being you and ignore all the haters ( because they wish they had what Pin up fans had) ;)!
Don't change one bit. I am from a small town, where if you don't drive a Land Rover and wear Fendi...you aren't cool and I constantly get judged because of the way I look....little do they know, nor do they care to find out...because they have already formed an opinion...that I am a homeowner, a graduate, hard working, bill paying, caring, passionate person. I know it hurts sometimes, but you just gotta be tough and keep being you. People will judge you, but don't let that make you forget the real you. You ARE beautiful. You ARE unique. You ARE you, and you ARE happy - that is what matters...not someone else's view of you. Which to be honest...they probably wish that they could be more like you. Remember that beauty is more then a pretty face, Prada bag and size 2 waist. Beauty is so much more then that....so keep on being beautiful Doll.
Hun you dont need to change a thing-

Sometimes people need obvious instruction.

Try this.
--use 50s style cat eye glasses without a prescription.
--wherever you go keep that coy toothy smile ;)
--remember wiggle and a walk.
--Vintage cut sweaters help, sometimes a string of pearls
(doesnt matter if its real or fake)
--*Poses in photos are key*
--Classy and Sassy.
--look at photos and paintings, Norman Rockwell is
a good way of putting you in the state of mind

***Finding the right photographer who understands you
and what you are trying to achive is very important***

Go to car shows even if your boyfriend or best friend
take some snap shots its ok - pose with the cars

Things take time but remember attitude and your
personality helps get attention too.

You'll be ok, soon you'll have photogs all over ya <3
I'm so sorry you have a hard time being accepted in your community! I'm surprised that people would consider pinup slutty. I often like to go out and do casual pinup. So maybe I'll wear a cute pair of pants with a sweater and waistbelt, cute hair flower, and pink lips and nails (instead of red), and maybe a pair of flats. Its a good look for daytime. I like to save my wiggle dresses and heels for my nights out on the town.

Any change that needs to happen doesn't have anything to do with you. Its the people who putting labels on you without even meeting you that need a change. You're beautiful, doll.
Don't let what other people say or think of you get you down- they're just scared to be different- especially in a small town- the only bit of advice I can give you is watch out just how much cleavage you're putting out there- if all everyone else sees when you walk down the streets is BOOBIES then whats the point of having the red lipstick or the flowers in your hair- all anyone will be looking at are your girlies- and not taking you serious as a woman or even a human being ( I learned this lesson when I was just getting into the look and I have huge boobs LOL)

You're a doll and don't forget it!
