And this may only be of interest to members in the UK (although I think you should start collecting them too North America and find out where and how to send them, but basically if you're like me and have a small collection of laddered fishnets and tights and lone stockings then send them to this address to recycle them and save lives. No joke!

524,000 women die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth each year and of these deaths, 99% occur in impoverished, developing countries. For every woman who dies, another 40 or 50 suffer severe injuries and complications.

We are collecting used (and washed) tights to send to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. The tights will be used to hold dressings in place when women suffer from childbirth injuries in particular when they suffer the Fistula condition. It can be very hard to hold these dressings in place and tights just happen to be the perfect solution. Send to

What an awesome cause!  I googled this charity on tightsplease and according to their website, they collected over 10,000 pairs of tights between late 2008 and early 2009.  They are no longer accepting donations, but when they do, they will announce it on their website.  In the meantime, we can check out the website for tips on how to care for our hosiery, how to wear it, and how to recycle it.  And oh, yeah, they have a massive selection for sale!
