ie: pinup contest winners, win cause of THOUSANDS of VOTE FOR ME requests...... ie: magazines: (MOST) diy models are in them, cause they personally apply and keep in contact with that publication....

research, research, research. get familiar with pinups, the drawn (elvgren, petty, varga, etc), the actresses (betty grable, etc), the models (bettie page, etc), the clothes, hair and poses. find photogs in your area and set up trade shoots. depending on where you are, some really great photogs may even be offering discounted shoots.

the pinup industry is all about self-promotion. talk to photogs and vendors in your area, get to know them and what they do. and make yourself available for shoots at car shows, events and music events. (check out the events section for things near you)

I think you should also ask yourself WHY do you want to do this? What is your inspiration? For me (and alot of us here I believe) I started pinup modeling because I felt it would be an extension of the lifestyle I love. The cars, Rockabilly music, classic movies, and the fashion of the 40's and 50's (and even the early 60's!) constantly inspire me, right down to my pinup name that is inspired by a 50's Buick.

What inspires you? What is your favorite music? Car? Era? Movie? Actress? Put that to work for yourself. Never imitate, but create. Not to discourage you, but there are TONS of girls wanting to "be a pinup" Anyone can look cute with a flower in their hair, some red lipstick and victory rolls. If you want to take it as far as being in magazines and modeling clothing, you need to create a unique special look that is truly YOU. With that will come confidence, and it goes without saying just how important confidence is.
