Tattoo Collage [aka - selling my first art piece]

Last weekend, I had my very first art show. While no stranger to all things creative, in the many many years that I have been making art [drawing, painting, collage, hair, etc.] there was always an urge to show it, but I didn't know how to go about that. Fortunately, the opportunity presented itself when my boy's co-worker was hanging out with us and saw my tattoo collage, inquiring if I had interest of having the piece in an exhibit he was putting together.

Of course I agreed, and so it was that I got to mingle with rich artsy socialites, drink wine and check out some really nice pieces by artists such as Basquiat, Rascal and Banksy. A friend of ours had a few pieces there as well, so it wasn't just the expensive stuff.

We were there for less than five minutes when I'm told that my piece sold, much to my surprise.

Here is the piece in most of its glory.

I created this last Summer, utilizing a plastic mannequin that was just sitting around in the basement and a slew of tattoo images cut from the pages of magazines I received my friend Jon Cobb before he had left for Hawaii. The tattoos were all glued on using Elmer's and a paint brush. Most of them are by well known artists such as Guy Aitchison, Paul Booth and Mike DeVries; others were chosen for the imagery or execution of the tattoo.

Several people have asked me if I am going to do more, and I would absolutely love to. Just have to hunt down more torsos and body parts. Definitely have plans for a pin-up and hot rod collage, so this is definitely not the last piece in this vein.

Thanks much. I'm still kind of chuckling about it, but definitely feels good to be recognized.

I gave the OH a hint that I liked Shag and hope something follows him home some day. *heh*
