I LOVE to read! Some of my all-time favorites are White Fang, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Lolita, Animal Farm, and the Shining. (SO much better than the movies! ... Yes, I'm one of THOSE... ;) )

I also love the whole Black Tower series. Steven King just blows me away.

But, right now I'm just getting around to reading the Harry Potter books. I'm on Chamber of Secrets right now. They're fun. But, I'd pick Tom Holt or Terry Pratchett over Rowling any day. At least, so far. Maybe after I'm deeper into the series I'll catch the addiction...
Water for Elephants is a recent fav, to many to list right now!
Fave books? Hmm...that's a tough one. My favourite authors would be Isabelle Allende (loved "Portrait in Sepia" and "Stories of Eva Luna") and Ann Rice (last ones I read were "Pandora" and "Blood and Gold"). I'm addicted to those books and need to get more! And Herman Hesse (especially "Siddharta", "The Glass Bead Game" and "Steppenwolf")
I love reading lots of non fiction about psychology, sociology, politics, history, etc. Really liked this book entitled "Mistakes Were Made But Not by Me". Everyone should read it!
I also like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 1984, Animal Farm, Trainspotting and many more that I can't exactly remember now.
And I recently read "The Killing Joke" by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland and loved it..."The Long Halloween" by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale is also a great read...Yes, I'm one of those!
oh I LUV ANNE RICE!!

but right now im really into Agatha Christie! and Murder mysterys! I luv the Amateur detective stories! I recently found this series that actually has baking receipes after every chapter in the book you read lol! i Used to read really intense stuf like Dean koontz and stephen king but right now the light hearted stuff is for me!

PL-ers, I love you; each and every one of you. This forum makes me so happy: style, movies, books, food, clothes, all the GOOD things in life!

I'm a sucker for "weird/off-beat" and "comedic" - especially when combined - and horror, in varying degrees of suckiness and excellent... ness. I am powerless to resist anything "vampire"; I even read that awful "Twilight - Book II" and have lived to regret it, bleh. Like some fantasy, when it doesn't get toooo over-the-top, same with sci-fi ie. "Wheel of Time" NO THANKS. Non-fiction is normally art (including illustrative, like fairy tale books) or fashion-centric and recipe books (PORN!!!!) And quantum mechanics. I left my 18 bookshelves of books (including antique art manuals & period pattern construction) behind when I migrated halfway round the 'world 7.5 years ago. I miss them every day ::renting of clothes and pulling of hair::

This is all I have at my disposal now:

Stephen King - esp. "Dark Tower" series and "The Dark Half"
Terry Pratchett - not for much longer :(
Robert Rankin - just plain goofy wackiness
Iain Banks - not his sci-fi, the other ones like "Wasp Factory"
Christopher Moore
Laurell K Hamilton - but not her most recent books. She's lost her love for them.
L.A. Banks - EXCELLENT vampire hunter series
Anne Rice - everything prior to "Merrick", pretty much
J.K. Rowling - duh.
Douglas Adams - RIP
Sue Townsend - "Adrian Mole" should be pre-requisite reading for all tweens-teens
Tom Robbins - f****** BRILLIANT. He will change your life.

I MISS MY BOOOOOOOKS!!!

I have no opinion because, like so many things on Amazon, it's not available outside of the USA.

My dad did the same thing decades ago: all that went with were his guitars, record player and a car full of records :) He still has all of them. I don't even know how many hundreds of kg/lbs of books I have. Many of them are large format art books, so they're heeeeavy. I weighed one box when I was packing and it clocked around 26kg/56lbs. There are 30+ boxes...

Why does this sound like a "My d1ck is bigger than yours" comp? XD

When I moved from Washington DC to San Francisco, I left all my furniture, most of my clothes, everything in the kitchen and left even my stereo and TV - But I took over 200lbs (91kg for our metric friends) of books in the U-Haul.

Query - does anyone here have a Kindle or thinking about getting a Kindle?
I forgot to add this before...if you want really good pin up art book look for anything from the publisher Taschen. They have lots of books on Elvgren, old men's magazines, golden age Hollywood, etc. And they're pretty cheap too. At least they are at this bookstore in Toronto, BMV Books...dirt cheap prices just in time for the recession! : ) Yup, I applied for EI just now... anyway find the books if you like pin ups..they're all good.
