Hey PL....my aunt came to me the other day saying she wants to do a 50th birthday party for my uncle, but not in the traditional 'Over the Hill" way. So we came up with the idea of turning her back yard into a 50's diner. She wants to have some of us girls in the family to be waitresses and plans to turn the gazeebo into an outdoor soda shop and serve more of a 50s diner type menu. I opted to be on rollerskates, but not enough skating room on the patio. LOL So I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what kind of foods would be good and easy to cook for a lot of people. And what other things we can do to make this party feel like we are back in the 50s. Also thinkin of renting a jukebox to play music from the era as well. I know everyone here will have some great ideas...so lets hear 'em!!!
Burgers and hotdogs! classic dinner food. fries and onion rings if you get adventurous. baked beans and cole slaw if its southern style. chilli cheese dogs and burgers. man im hungry now. dont forget the soda fountain and shakes and malts! scarfs and fuzzy dice , leather jackets and doo- wap!
Diner postcards here - decorating and some menu ideas
Food ideas here - okay, this one's mostly for the laughs, but you'll still get an idea of what the attitude towards food was, and this was very influential on what was eaten. Also, some great ideas for kitschy table decorations etc.
