So that dreadful Valentine's Day has come and gone...and it really got me thinking about the sorry state of the dating scene here. And the quality of young guys in this town. I dunno is it the same elsewhere? In Toronto there are just too many guys who are obsessed with fitting into skinny jeans, shopping at American Apparel and listening to the latest hipster rock tripe.
It's so difficult to find a guy who likes decent music and dresses with some real style.
Also guys my age just seem rude and so self-centered. They can't even bothered to hold the door open for a girl, never mind hearing a compliment about your looks..
It makes me wish I'd been around in a different era like the 40s or 50s. So yeah depressing thoughts on Valentine's this year! : (
Is it this bad in other cities? I'd really like to know.

A few months ago I wrote a blog that talks about the courting relationships between men and women:

Why do I have such an attraction to the mid 20th Century (40s/50s/e...

You'd be surprised LOL!! They are amazingly nice and i think its funny cause they all smell like herbal esseces! but yes..age does matter..its seems that they have been through relationships and also know how to treat women with respect and support and care!

they are genuine! They really listen and focus attention on you! They also make you feel special with compliments!
You'll find a guy and you'll just know if not come down here ill set you up with a few LOL!

Ok, old French metal head it is then! : P

And yeah most girls in Montreal are conceited and snobby..there's this one (I won't name names) who's a girlfriend of this band I had to interview for my film. She seems to hate me...don't know why. I never said anything mean to her..I swear!

Wish I was younger and Single ,, 1960 and 1970 not a bad decade either ....
That was a well written blog..and I agree that people should start being civilized to each other again. Instead people have less manners then ever...maybe it's just the decline of our society in general. Who knows?

I feel the same way. its just as bad here in la. I have found that 35 and up are the better ones to go for.
So it's pretty much agreed that older men are better, yes?
If I could I would date Paul Simonon (from the Clash) and he's already in his 50s I believe. And still soooooo hot!!
He can rob my cradle any day! lol Does that sound right?
About paying your own way... I really wasn't taught anything by my mom (she has no clue about dating she just got married right away after spending time in a convent to become a nun.- true story). But I used to believe I should pay my own way a few HORRIBLE experiences and books later and I realized the guy should pay most of the time. Why? Because more likely then not he has a job where he makes at least TEN times what I make. As I read somewhere guys STILL make more money then women (in general this is true) so why not have him pay for dinner? If the bill is small change to him why not? If he's making 30 dollars an hour while I'm making 10 an hour..

Personally I will NEVER again buy anything for a guy...at least not until we've been married for about five years...I was such an idiot before I used to pay the bill, lend him money... yes, I had my own personal K-Fed douchebag leaching off of the very LITTLE money I had. Never again!
Anita, I'm so sorry that you've experienced that! I think I always paid my own way because I never wanted to give a guy any opportunity to say "that b****, I bought her X, Y and Z" and have even the slightest chance to make ME look bad. In a couple of relationships, I think I was probably making more money... but I never discuss that with guys, even when I'm dating them. My "independence" comes directly from my mom, who was an equal rights activist who felt that if women were to be treated as equals, then we had damn well better act like them. Now, I have myself a wonderful gentleman who gives me no reason to worry about sophomoric retribution or name-calling, and he thinks my "independence" is cute. My mom likes him anyway. ;)
