I use Nikon speed lights, and I love these little guys. They rock cause they are so small and have a good amount of out-put. The only set back is the infared trigger system they use. I need some Pocket wizards I guess..... What do you peeps like ???? Let's hear it .................

In the pic ... I'm using my Alien bees Ring flash with 30" moon light( it's sweet !!!! ) picture by my wife... Elizabeth

Alien Bees ROCK when you find your niche in how you wish to use them.

I would highly suggest Continuous light WITH a strobe. Take away light if you have to, but do not constantly settle for 'not enough' light!

On a budget?

Get a Smith-Victor set (1250w minimum,) and plant your Alien Bee where you want it, to taste.

Got a big budget?

Get 2 Kino Pro 4-banks, and three synced wireless strobes.
Lian.... I go to shoots with my speedlights becasue they are quick and easy to set up and control via my master flash. They have plenty of power , don't get me wrong .... I would love a huge Profoto set but I don't really need that kinda power to often. My sb-800 can light up a huge area at night no problem. Continuous lights are good too. I have 2 mole richadrson baby baby lights and 2 mole richardson baby lights and one of their soft lights( great for classic portraits ) with a bounce board. What do you shoot with if I may ask ???

That looks like a fine set!

I actually run with 1250 watts of steady light (2-500w umbrellas and a 250w boom,) and for flashes, I use a minolta5200HS on full power, and have a dome diffuser, fan diffuser, and the flash itself has a 90 degree V and 180 degree H rotation, so I can put that flash anywhere, bounced, direct, etc.

Most of my shoots already have decent light, I fill in with the steadies, and use the flash to pick out forward-facing shadows.

I use strobes for all of my portraiture shooting, you get more control of your light and subject and can duplicate the color and fell of hot lights.
