When does one officially become a professional Pin-Up Model?

So, how long after a girl starts modeling do you think you can consider her a professional Pin-Up? Does it become official after the first pin-up shoot with a famed photographer? Is it when you win your first contest? Hmmmm....I'd like to hear feedback from the PL pros.

Quite honestly I think its whenever you can work a photoshoot like the video below. Every pose perfectly staged, and every inbetween pose movement smooth, fluent and camera flash ready. You may think from the still images that she's screaming, hitting bongos or jumping, nope, its all face, hands and body sculpting. Bernie gives amazing advice in the description of all her videos and is very good about answering questions in the Bernie Dexter Fans group. Bernie is what I consider a true pro pinup. A photographer would have no downtime shooting someone like her, it would be, on the stage, pose pose pose, click click click, done WOW.

That makes perfect sense Bernie. I guess that would legitimize you as a pro when you can "quit your day job" haha. And DC you've got it there too! Bernie (Making you blush again*) if I can look as good as you do in motion AND in every still frame I would be a blessed gal (I hope to do as much when I start burlesque in February). Thank you for truly bringing the tradition alive with your style. Old School Pin-up is still alive and well in 2009 because of Bernie Dexter and all on Pinup Lifestyle!
Bernie is a super star!

I'd say being all over the place..Having a huge port, Shooting with well known photographers, getting published, shooting with other pro pinups, getting clothing or anything else for FREE to model..
My favorite is Bernie..Not only is she beautiful and knows how to move, she takes the time to talk to her fans and is very down to earth.
I'll be shooting my first very well known model in late Feb then another over the summer..I'm so very excited!!!
Oooh ooh! Can't wait to see!

whow... good question~!
i know i'm not as 'Pro' as Mrs. Bernie Dexter!!! she is pretty much WHAT IS UP, with PiNUP modeling in our Era!

like Daddy cool said, she flows.... NO DOWN TIME! she clearly rocks a photo shoot, or a video... ANY pinup model who has not heard of bernie dexter, my suggestion to you as a seasoned pinup, is GOOGLE: BERNiE DEXTER, study her work... you cant go on any (other, or this one) pinup styled website, and not see her selling the product (via'modeling) or have her talked about, AS ONE OF THE GREATEST MODELS to-date!

not everyone can be her-only herself clearly, but her photoshoots, and CONSTANT posts of new shoots, is definitally something that makes her stand out of a crowd!

i know i have a job, and go to school, and do pinup! Pinup is not a fulltime job for me, i have been practicing my skills through trade work (model product for trade of product and pinup photos)

i have alot of knowlage in the PiNUP department, and would seem like a MASTER to alot of the first-time models that i shoot pinup photoshoots for, but i know i'm not a master... after 4 years, i still kinda struggle for a few minutes everytime on set, as a model, OR as the photographer!!

i think that getting your pinup images printed in THOUSANDS of magazines and having them sold around the country is a HUGE STEP in the modeling world... and it is MY NEW HIGH!!!
this past year, my pinups were featured in 4 different printed magazines... that makes me stoked, and proud of what i do! i think that is pretty "professional"...

so ya, unless your a pinup who models, gets paid for it, and your rent is paid.... living the life!.... my opinion is that your own idea of a "professional Pin-Up", in your own world, is good enough! Set goals, accomplish them, and see how you feel about that!!

When you've got your own website, have modeled for well known clothing companies, been in magazines, have 40,000 friends on MySpace and most people in the scene are framiliar with your name, or know who you are if they see you walk by.
FLAW-LESSS!! <3

Hey everyone!
well, i never considered myself a pro at anything until i was actually making a living at it.
whatever job it was, make up artist, hair dresser or pin up model. Once i knew it was paying the bills i
actually felt i was a pro;) does that make since?

I completely agree with this. Once I could start telling people where the money came from to pay bills and the finer things in life i suddenly realised I am a proffessional. Beats working a dead end job ;-)
