What do you use to motivate yourself to workout or eat healthy?

As there are so many people on PL that obviously take care of their bodies, I was wondering what you do to keep yourself motivated. With summer coming, the thought of looking good in a bathing-suit is a big motivator right now to staying on track. I use both positive and negative reinforcements. I look at my fat pictures and think, "If you don't go do something active today, this will be you again." I also say to myself, " You've done great so far, keep it up and let's see how much farther we can take this!"

I have a workout and diet buddy. So far things are working out for both us, and for right now she is a great motivator. I do know that once we start working on different shifts it will be kinda tough especially since we cant leave the facility for lunch. And believe me, there are times when I dont feel like packing a healthy lunch to take along with me and the food in the dining hall is sooo fattening. But so far so good. I just hope I can keep it up.
if u read the atkins diet book it should be enough .I listen to some bloc party & some The Quakes jamz & I set
I agree with Violet about having a buddy. It keeps you accountable to someone other than yourself. A big thing is to look at any changes as a lifestyle change, not a diet. I personally think "diet" gives people the feeling of impending failure. Eating smarter will work, but your results will be worlds different if you also become dedicated to making some type of physical activity routine.
well since i have to keep in some what good shape for my job that is a good motivater cash, and well what is a good thing other then that umm the movie 300 is a good motivater lol, i mean watching pumped up action films usual do for me. and by working out and all that i can eat what ever i want. i mean i do watch what i eat but i do love getting my milkshakes. so yeah and music is a good thing to keep you working out so pick something up beat that keeps you moving. and well looking good is a good thing to.
For me one motivation feeds off the other. I feel discouraged to eat fatty foods when I work out consistently , because I feel I've worked so hard those french fries just don't seem worth it anymore. Although when I do splurge on something, that just motivates me to work harder on my next workout. As long as I stay consistent and keep moving it never occurs to me to not workout. Working out makes me more proud of my body and I'm always reminding myself of that. I keep the skinny pictures of me out so I always am reminded of my goal.
After a visit from the DR. will usually do it for about a week , then back to the same routine ....
hmmm....well, i work out constantly so i am gonna spill my advice to you. First off, how is your diet? I can give you some tips there if you like....
But as far as motivation goes, i find it works better to have a goal other than just to lose weight, if that is your goal. For instance, I am going to do a triathlon. when the focus is on being able to complete something, it really helps. The weight will come off, and that is just a fortunate by product of your main goal. It really takes the pressure off of weighing and measuring yourself all the time.

Also, you can never go wrong with a really killer playlist to work out to! I could not survive without mine!
If you like what i had to say, and you want more details, it would be my pleasure to help you out.
Good luck!
Wake up in the morning at 7am and hit the gym 5 days a week for the past 5+ years. Use to have a couple other guys I worked out with that motivated me but now it's just me. When I go on a cutting or bulking diet that really motivates me to stick to things. When I'm not on one there are days I wake up after going to the bar the night before and choose to stay in bed for those extra 2 hours instead of going. At the gym my workout playlist is fast beat and high intensity. Gives me some energy to lift. While doing cardio I watch videos (TV shows and music videos) on my iPhone.
My son is my biggest motivator. We bought a wii fit and he loves it. He can't play it yet, but he loves to watch so he makes me do it every day. Best motivation ever. Getting fit and making my son happy.
Our editor is involved in a television campaign series in Britain, called Battlefront. She's campaigning against Size Zero Models, and the way that models being stick-thin can make "normal" women feel. That's one of the reasons I love doing the PR on this site - Pin Up Models break those kind of rules, and I think it's amazing!

Show her campaign some support at www.battlefront.co.uk (if you click "Campaigners", then "Anti-Size Zero", it should take you to her!)

...i drink lots of Coca-cola & sleep in a lot. :-) jk!

I go running a lot!..i love to run!! <3
My calorie count stays between 1300 and 1500 and I eat 5-6 small meals a day. I work out daily. I run 2 miles 3x a week at least and I do weights and stretching. Saturdays are my fun days. Hiking, biking that type of thing. I've gone from a size 12 to a size 4 and am now working as hard as is healthy for my body to tone it all up. I posted this discussion, not so much for advice on how to lose weight, but rather I was curious what motivated other people to keep on keeping on. Exercise and an active, healthy lifestyle are just that to me. A lifestyle. The fear of becoming squishy again is as much a motivator to me as looking at a new photoshoot and saying to myself, "Damn you've come a looooong way baby!" I believe everyone should have goals. They're great motivators for everything I do in life. :)
