I was thinking about when this generation gets old, and we're covered in tattoos, and how different we'll look from generations past. It left me wondering how many girls back in the 40's and 50's got tattoos. I found this picture and thought it was awesome.

I bet her grand kids thought she was pretty cool.

I have heard it SO MANY TIMES about how I will look so GROSS when I get old with all my tattoos!!! Seriously, I will be one hot g'ma! I seriously just want to tell them to SHUT UP! I dont tell them how ugly they will be with their wrinkly face and saggy tits. We will be a generation of cool g'mas & g'pas with our life stories on our skin!

It's hot. I love it.

Balls. Of. Steel.
Velvet-encased, naturally ;)
Hah I hate those kind of comments too! I always tell people that I'd rather be covered from head to toe in amazing art witch character than sporting some boring old liver spots! Were all gonna wrinkle up and die eventually so may as well rock out our skin while we can!

I don't plan on living that long... haha!
Honestly who the f*** knows what's gonna happen? Life is shorter then most people realize..I HATE it how most people assume that they and EVERYONE they know is gonna live to 100 years old..who are you? God? How would you know for sure?
And so what if by some miracle I live to be that age and I have tattoos? I'll probably be senile so I'll need my ink to remind me of who I am and where I am..lol.
Seriously I want my tattoos to be a kinda map of my life and to have a code that only I can understand. So yeah, screw what the squares think! : )
She rocks! I can't wait to be a ink'd granny..lol..Yes I can..
I always wonder why people ask me what I'm going to do with my tattoos when I get older. What are they going to do when they get older? I keep thinking... if I have a nice enough body when/if I'm 90 to walk around in a bikini on the beach then I my tattoos will probably still look fine.

I once heard a square ask someone, "How are you going to feel when you're in the nursing home with all those tattoos?" The reply was, "How will you feel when you're there, and don't have any?"

"By the 1980s, tattooing had become popular. It was no longer a part of the subculture, even people with Sorbonne and Harvard educations were getting them, as well as curators at well-known art museums. MTV was taking over cable television and there was hardly a band that did not have tattoos."

This is how I think of it: if it's 2009 and something like a woman with ::gasp:: tattoos still offends/shocks/scares people, then HOORAH! Good, I'm glad. I live in fear of there being no more rules to break, no more wars to win, no more boundaries to push. If I can piss you off/challenge your reality/broaden your perspective while at the same time beautifying my meat canvas and honoring my experiences with symbols that are meaningful to me, then today is a good day after all.

I hope I still have enough fire in me to cause a ruckus when I'm 84 (that's a good estimate of what I'll get to); I'm not going out drooling on my own chin.

Apparently, I woke up on the pissy side of the bed this morning ;)
So true...its almost to the point where our generation will think it taboo if you don't have at least one little tattoo :)

Oh I love this! We were just talking about this at work last night. I am going to get started on my sleeve in a couple of weeks and there were some people saying "Oh, just think of how nasty you will look when your a old, and how your grandkids will look at you." Whatever...my whole generation will look that way...we are all tatted up...and my grandkids are gonna think that their g-ma ROCKS. :) Plus...by then tattoos will be so socially exceptable that will be covered as well.

And YES tats will look sooooo much better than liver spots! I love it.
i get the comments about being old with tattoos all the time!! Your chest is going to be all wrinkly.. your arms will be saggy.. your blah blah blah...
I tell them I am going to be the coolest tattooed grandma EVER!!! And they all look at me like Im crazy.. but its true! i will be covered by then!!
AND one of my friends was at a bar, and some guy was checking her (fully tattooed her) out from across the bar.. he started walking over.. shes thinking. oh great hes gonna hit on me,,
NOPE
he says.. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I THINK WOMEN WITH TATTOOS ARE DISGUSTING
and walked away..
she was obviously speechless.. haha

Did you know ** here goes my brain again.. that tattoo artists in the 1800's often tattooed their DAUGHTERS and WIVES as their portfolios?? The first tattooed lady.. well one of them.. Nora Hildebrandt.. she was around 30 something.. in 1882 when she started exhibiting her already HEAD TO TOE body in tattoos.. she was a sideshow and claimed she was captured (her and her father) by indians, and they FORCED him to give her one tattoo for every day in the year they were captive.. she had .. you guessed it.. 365 tattoos on her body!!

Labelle Irene (irene woodward) was close to follow.. she was also a sideshow..
but their tattoos are SO cool..
