What am I doing wrong with my stockings?

Okay, so when Sunday rolls around, I make it a point to dress nice for church. It's the only day outta the week, really... Anyhow, wanted to wear these nude stockings W/ cute garter belt action. Had DH help me out with attaching everything, kinda fun, ;). Went to church & HATED the fact I felt like I had to keep pulling up my stockings & constantly wondering if they were peeking out from underneath my dress.The garters never came unattached & they were adjusted to the shortest length possible.
My question is what did I do wrong??? Why didn't they stay put? I bought everything from Fredrick's of Hollywood & I have always been VERY happy with my purchases. Is there a difference b/ stockings and thigh highs? And how do you ladies get them to stay up???? I don't know how our grand moms did it, but as soon as I was in the car, I pulled those babies off. Ugh, so any 411 or insight would be much appreciated. I love the thought of stockings or thigh highs vs. pantyhose, but man, there's GOTTA be a better way!! Thanks ladies!!

P.S. And I don't want to spend lots of $$$. I spent prolly $35 for 2 pairs of stockings & a garter belt...

The problem is that it is a Garter Belt. I think garter belts were made just for looks, not for practical use. I wear my stockings with an open bottom girdle that has garters attached, and they never fall down...sometimes when I take the girdle down to use the bathroom, the stocking will come undone since it's so close to my skin, but I just re-attach after using the toilet and I'm fine.

That makes sense!! I don't know why I didn't consider that as an option, DUH!!! Lord knows I love me some girdles....

If you do wear a garter belt, make sure it fits well and sits high enough. The biggest problem I've seen is the stockings pulling the belt down.

The garter belt that I wear is sturdy and tight! It's not one of those "decorative" little waist numbers, we are talking industrial strength! LOL.

Make sure to buy a girdle or belt that has METAL clip parts - not the plastic fasteners. Metal is the only way to go to keep your stockings high and tight.

Keep the stockings , loose the belt. the belt was ment to be worn for about 10 min. before it comes off! if you want one to stay all day get one that will sit on your waist, not your hips. the right fit and has metal clasps, girdles work best. and ones with more than 4 garters work even better. check out girdlebound.com! good luck!

Girdle Girdle Girdle!! I have a ton of cute Garter Belts...for...eh..."fun" purposes, but I never expect them to keep my stockings up. I use a metal clasped 6 garter Girdle (say that 5 times fast) lol

I actually prefer a garter belt and stockings to any other kind of legwear! I use the stockings from WhatKatieDid and my waist cincher from My Baby Jo. I've never had a problem w/ them falling and I like what wearing the cincher does for my posture.
