Just wondering if there are any other retired punks here?
I got into this whole pin up, rockabilly, psychobilly thing via punk. One thing leads to another..at least for me because I have a short attention span and like discovering new music and styles, etc. This is thanks to the scene in Vancouver which is a lot more interesting and fun then Toronto. So any other semi-retired punks?

I grew up in NY in the 70's and 80's
hung out in the Village
haunted CBGB's , Kenny's, Max's etc etc

and I started playing punk as a bass player back in the day up thru 1998 with a band called The Baghdaddios
(they are still kicking it, but I moved to the land of milk and cheeseheads)

I pretty much retired from punk when I moved here, but I find myself missing it tons and debating finding another band to play in

oh.. and I make sure my kids get a steady diet of The Ramones, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, The Sex Pistols and everything else I have
Oh...ok then just put North America. Canadians are kinda paranoid about being lumped in with the States. You know all that stuff about Manifest Destiny..and well...not to get all political but yeah we're Canadians not Americans.
And yeah Montreal is VERY different from Toronto. They speak French a lot for one thing..And they have BETTER taste in music. Oh and their hockey team actually WINS sometimes! Ok I'm a Montreal Canadians fan I confess right now. Montreal is cooler then Toronto, that's right.

I know someone from Montreal who was always a greaser, never a punk ;-) I have always heard there is a good scene in Montreal.

I meant "North America" when I said the "US" I was comparing North America to Europe.

Actually I live in Canada so the U.S is NOT the only place where rockabilly is the punk/skin retirement plan..In Canada it's even more like that because the rockabilly scene is too f****** small to get into that exclusively..it can't really be done. You'll be bored outta your skull waiting for a decent show to go to.

In Europe, people get into the Rockabilly scene and music at a young age and are into it for life. Here, it seems most are punks when they are teenagers, and get into rockabilly as they get older. I actually have a few friends that are younger than me, (they are 28-33 and I am 42) who got into Rockabilly when they were 17-18. They are still into it.

I still go to occasional punk shows.
Not to get political, but it's not so bad to be lumped in with us. Rockabilly music came from here, and I'm sure when people use the term "Americana" they don't mean Canada ;-)

Yeah sure I know it came from there..pretty much every modern style of music did..Yes, it is American and that's fine. But Canada should still be recognized as a separate country, we're NOT the 52nd state yet..

I'm not a retired punk but my Aunt Georgia is. She is now a jeweler who won a contest last year and is known around more big cities. I'm very proud of her... you look at her and could NEVER tell she used to wear painted leather jackets, spikes and shaved her head. She's got great stories. Now she has long curly hair and wears polka dot dresses!

I am a tried and true punk grrl to heart. Im SEMI- retired.. I still hold my ideals about the government/war/rights/liberty/chaos/ etc.. but you unfortunately wont see me protesting or rallying these days.. and the mohawk is gone.. haha
I do have other loves.. and music is the center to all of them.. I've been into Punk since i was old enough to put a record on the player myself.. Im making myself sound old, but Im only 25.. Really, Rockabilly is more closely related to punk than you might think.. they interchange a lot.. from genres to guitar players! I've been to more shows than i can remember that are mixed genre and rockabilly and punk are so cohesive, the entire crowd enjoys the whole show regardless of if they have a mohawk or a pomp..
Rockabilly is synonymous here as the retirement home for punkers.. I've heard it so much.. but i'm not entirely sure why..
My guess is that it has something to do with the fashion. Honestly, you're better off trying to find a job dressed in the costume of a pinup than a street punk. Once you get to a certain age, you realize if you want to survive, you have to become part of the society.. no matter how non-punk that may seem.. haha Thats even how I transitioned into making my retro-repro line! But honestly, no matter how many undergarments, corset, dresses, or how curled my hair is, i still get weak in the knees when i hear Fat mike belt out Stickin' in my eye.. or Bad Religion harmonize in Billy.. seriously, i will always get goosebumps... and never let go of my roots!
