So I've been wondering if I should get some bangs or not... All my life I have been taught "Whatever you do with your hair, don't get bangs". To the girls who already have them... are they hard to manage? How long should they be? What do I need to know?

I love these! They look real, but yet easy to remove AND they are human hair so you can dye them to match yours whenever you want!!!
Call me dirty-minded, but am I the only one that thought something different when she read the title of this discussion? Heh heh...

Anyways... back on topic. So far in my life I have only gotten bangs once. I was much too young and didn't know how to take care of them properly, and so they looked horrid. I just clipped them back until they were long enough.

However I am more recently a fan of the sideswept bang. They're a little longer and can really do wonders for a high forehead. I know they're a little more contemporary, but they can look really sultry if you do it right.

I say go for it! Play with them and make them yours, as it seems like most gals who now love their bangs spent a lot of time getting to know what works best for them and their hair type. And, as was previously stated: the worst case scenarios seem to mean you either re-cut them, try styling them a different way, or, hey-they'll always grow out.
When I don't have bangs, I wear my hair the same way every day. When I have bangs, I wear rolls, ponytails, braids, sides up, headbands, barrettes, etc ... I never get bored.

I think the key is to fully commit to bangs or no bangs. Thin wispy bangs, or too-long-to-do-anything-with-bangs, are a bad compromise and will just end up making you hate your head until they grow out enough to sweep them to the side.
You know, I've been letting mine grow out just so I can do some side-swept styles (and so folks will stop making the inane Bettie comparison) but you're right. NOT having bangs just doesn't work for me. I think I'll stop into Floyd's today and get them taken care of!

I say NO ,, at some events you can't swing a cat with- out hitting someone who has bangs:
Its kinda like flat black paint on cars , every one wants that LOOK ,,, enough

Finally someone said it.

l've had a fringe for several years and can only recall short periods where I would either grow it out or slip in some extensions for instant length. Right now they're growing out from an asymmetrical cut that I know will take some time, but I'm over having a fringe and want something new.

Anywho, without wanting or meaning to insult anyone, but I am quite tired of the 'Betty Bangs'. First of all, the majority of people who use this term to describe their cut fail at the very simple task of even having the right shape. Taking scissors and cutting straight across your hair does not give you the roundness that is infamous of Betty's trademark fringe. Sorry, it just really irks me when people say "I have Betty bangs" and all you can think is, "No you don't baby girl."
Always trust the internet when making tough decisions:

Stuff White People Like: Girls With Bangs

(I have a short, blunt-cut fringe; my face doesn't look right without it. I have a low hairline=short forehead, so the fringe hides that. I cut it really wide, which balances my rather peasant-like facial structure. Also helps to make eyes look further apart. A good haircut is like engineering for your face :) )
DO IT! Get the bangs! hair always grows back lady!
This was my favorite line from that article, "When you are introduced to a group of white people, it’s a good idea to befriend the girl with the bangs. She’s probably the most popular." hahaha.. this is
further proof bangs are cool. hahaha..

my problem is humidity and two cowlicks... however, i love bangs, and i just take forever to get them right
Face shape has a bit to do with the length and/or how you want to wear them; however, they will make you feel sassy and sexy!!!! Remember, hair does grow back!
