They are not only Vegan and raw, but OH MY GOD good. If you haven't tried them I highly recommend it. They don't taste like chalk or saw dust like some others, and every one I've tried is awesome. My favs are cinnamon roll and cherry pie.
You can get them at Whole foods and other healthy stores.
After reviewing the Lara website the highest calorie content is 220 which is 60 calories less than the regular Snickers bar, if I am looking at the Snickers website correctly.
Why should a Lara bar be eaten instead of a Snickers? Well, if you are basing your diet choices solely on fat and calorie numbers it doesn't sound like a wise choice. However, and I may be mistaken, in the case of the Lara bar it seems to be far more nutritionally beneficial.
Point One: There are good and bad fats. Some nuts provide good fats, like pistachio. Oh, and coconut oil is a good fat, which is another ingredient in some of the bars.
Point Two: Fruit. No fruit in a Snickers.
Point Three: Omega Fatty Acids are in most to all Lara bars (I became bored at looking at every single bar, but each I looked at for the last few had them. These are gooooooooood for you. Fish has omega fatty acids as well. Snickers? Nada!
Point Four: As Roxy Tart mentioned, they are vegan and raw. I'm not the expert but I believe that your body digests raw foods better than processed (Snickers) foods.
Not saying that a Lara bar is a better alternative than fresh fruit or a handful of brazil nuts but hey, if I was on the go and a Lara bar or Snickers were my only choices, I think it's obvoius which I'd pick.
If I'm wrong, please someone set me straight. Otherwise, keep on enjoying those Lara bars Miss Roxy Tart!!! Just please keep in mind that even good fats done to excess will add up! Moderation is key =).
My main reason for eating these and not snickers is, as Vortex Betty said, they are vegan and raw. After that, pretty much everything that Josie Raven said. And now.. I'm off to eat a cherry pie bar.
I love Lara Bars! The peanut butter cookie is so good. I've never tried cinnamon roll, but it sounds delicious. I really want to try the cocoa mole as well.
