Well someone just gave me an awesome freaking compliment saying they wanted to be as good as me one day. I was very flattered but reluctant to respond. I know my photography has improved a great deal in the 1 year since i started but I am striving to learn and reach a point where i am very happy with my work. I am my biggest critique. Anyways someone to aspire to Dave LaChappele Amazing work this guy has... They also asked me what can i do to make it better and I gave the this advice...

"Well besides practice i say, not much. I really think watching fashion shows, and shows like America's Top Model help me a lot." I read it over and i couldnt believe what i wrote. Its a big help to me but what do other people think of it. I really want to know.

I agree bro, and I don't think so much that yo LEARN from it, I think it inspires you. I feel the same way, its always best to completely surround yourself with your passion and immerse yourself in its industry. You could pickup a golden nugget of info that will come in handy sometime, ya just never know, and knowing is half the battle.

First off I will say that you do have an amazing talent, I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I too watch America's Next Top Model, and it does help me in ways too. I watch how the girls move and pose when they are shooting and then pick out what I like and don't like about the pictures, and listen to all the critiques. They do a pretty good job of explaining why the are making that specific comment...I feel it's good to take it all in and try to remember those things while I do my own shoots. They also give great tips on things to do while you are shooting to make it all run smoother and get you great pictures in the end. While I don't agree with some of the things that are said on the show as far as size of the model ( i am a firm believer that beauty is more then just a pretty face and a size 2 waist) I think that there is always more to learn and grow.
Love the image! Hahahaha and great im glad to see im not the only fruit loop that watches it.
awesomely said and thank you very much for that great compliment. I agree with you, when i watch the show they try making it seem like a 0 1 2 or 3 are the sizes in modeling, but thats why i like pin up. what pic of Marilyn ever came out without some imperfection. thats what made them perfect.

Of course! You do have an amazing talent! :)

I too love the pin-up world, because there is so much more to beauty - I love how you said the imperfection is what made them perfect - it's so true!

I think your right I love America's Next Top model just for the photography. When you watch creative things you get inspired to explode your own creativity. I definately will check out your work. But I think a lot of us are our own biggest critics at least I am in everything I do. But I know with what your doing you're only going to get better especially if your passionate about it...It's inevitable.
I love the show.. seeing this posts gives me the idea to try and do crazy things like they do!
I watch "ANTM" not really for the modeling, but more for the drama. LOL. There are little things that I think you can pick up from watching it, but some of the stuff I think is just nuts. Also, I'm surprised they have never done a pinup style shoot! Unless they did and I just missed it. I thought that would be a pretty obvious theme for a shoot. Maybe it's just me. =)
They have done one, it was on cycle 5. They all dressed up as pin up girls & did their shoots next to a car. They looked like this:

that show is so hard to watch.... if it was only the photoshoots.... RIGHT GANG?
the rest is boring when the talk about each other in there f****** loft...
ya, i agree and i guess accross the board we vote that America's next top model totally helps!
i'm from canada.... anybody seen CANADA's NEXT TOP MODEL....
accually there is a british one too...
anyhow, it is a great show and i bring information from that show with me to almost every photoshoot... as any pinup knows, you think alot as a model, and America's next top model tips run through my head, since the day i had saw tthat TV show...
i work as a PiNUP STYLiST on photo shoot's and relay tips from the TV show to the girls....
i love modeling, it is so fun, and different EVERYtime...
i like on the TV show how they change the photoshoot, and @ the end when a girl (or boy) gets voted off, they replay, ALL of her photoshoot Look's..
xoxo Soda Shop Sue
I think the show would help. Not just a photographer but also a model. Studying them on how they position the camera, angles, lights. I watch it too because I would love to model one day and I get pointers on what they tell the women to do to make the picture look better.
I love ANTM. It's very helpful because they have experienced models come in & teach the girls (and the audience) little tips & tricks for modeling, like Janice Dickenson did with the 'Laughing out Loud' while your being photographed so the smile in the photo looks more genuine and warm, or when she gave a modeling posing class and showed different excercises that are good to do so you're more flexible and ease into different shoots easier. There was an episode of the European ANTM in Britain where they had Dita Von Teese teaching pinup poses ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqq4m8KrTWQ )
Hehee, if you can tell, I used to watch ANTM religiously.
And I can see where it would help a photographer to, because you can actually see how this professional photographer is guiding the model & and directing her into the different shot, and interacting with the model so she can interpertate the feeling & mood you want.
