Tattoos and pin up girls - What is the situation is abroad(US, England...)

Hello. I am slavic and EU pin up model ...I am just wondering about tattoo in pin up modeling industry. That's a good combination...even sometimes very conservative (and impossible to discuss...) comments make me sad. I personally do not notice tattoos on people. Somehow I see the whole package :D It's great to have them but there is not a problem without them.

I have nautical stars at my back (never represented problem for my work and modeling), and I had tribal at my arm (I made it when i was 15 - youth craze) and I removed it 80% with laser...it was a expensive and long process and I still have shade but I can easy cover it with make up foudation. I am planing to put someting at that same place(inner side of the upper arm), someting traditional and very quality and feminine because I think that pin up modeling and tattoos are really good blend. I personaly respect but don't like suicide girls and I don't like when people compare it with pin up modeling and retro and vintage culture. What do you think? I'm a little in doubt because tattoo because Croatia is very conservative country, so can you tell me what the situation is out there - abroad.

some people feel that tattoos are one of the trademarks of the modern pinup.  I have a few and some photographers have edited them out while others have accentuated them.

the overall situation in the US is that tattoos are a generally accepted part of the pinup industry/scene..in fact many tattoo conventions also include Pin Up contests :)

Ty for nice answer...during the past tattoo bussines was not so developed so people didn't tattooed so much and so quality. I saw some situations when some photographers want tattoos on models. If tattoo is fine and in combination with lovely retro clothing and looks that is great combination.

How people react to pin up in US? Do they know that culture good? From my European perspective looks like it's popular like mainstream there... Sometimes I think that pin up culture will slowly "eats" mainsteram (that would be nice). Is profitably to be pin up model(not alternative, only pin up...) in US? (+Better with or without tattoos?). Here that is not so popular jet.

For my part, in Quebec city, most photographers I know are ''craving'' for tattoos. ''It fits with the pinup style'' they say. Some even asked me if I know models with who onlyhave  tattoos to take picture...You know the bad girl and boy look..
It totally fits, I agree. But this is now the modern pinup style.

Tattoos have become such an art expression and so damn popular.
People don't frightened them anymore, execpt people who aren't open minded...
With or without tattoos... it is still beautiful !

Tattoos very much fit with the Modern PinUp. But here in the US, with or without is ok. Niether is better. PinUp is very popular here, and it does bleed over into the mainstream quite a bit. I have a weekly column on www.buzzchomp.com called "Monday's Mainstream PinUp", and I never run out of things to write about.

Ty. Roxy I will check it out. It's great to hear some experiences from abroad :)

I am happy to see someone talking about tattoos, as it is something I had wondered about as well.  Since I don't have any and had seen so many folks with them doing the pinup, I wondered if it was something that was needful or not.  I love the look of tattoos, but HATE! needles!!!! I had some one try to break one on my bone when giving me a shot as a child, so for me they are NOT an option!  I have a real phobia due to real pain!

I love the beauty of them, both with the pinup look and other looks.  But I am glad that whichever way you go, that folks seem to think that is a look that rocks!

I love that this community is all about support for being you and what you see yourself, not just conforming to a mold. lol

Love yall!

Right, you definitely do not need them to do Pin Up and I would actually hate to think that anyone would get a tattoo because they felt they had to to fit in.

I have always felt that, as many of you ladies are saying, the best part about this community/lifestyle/ subculture is that it really is so very accepting.

have been doing this for a long time now and never been turned down by a photographer for having tattoos and really only hired once because I have tattoos :)

Here in Croatia people are sometimes very residual...I had interview for our national TV about retro and pin up and have to explaining to people that pin up and retro fashion are good combo for pin up and modern pin up. But I know that in Germany and Europe tattoos are fine and bonus or they are just whatever; you have them ok, you don't have them ok...With pin-up obviously do not go any tattoos only traditional, oldschool and feminine floral. I see that many girls don't have tattooes like Doris Mayday, Bernie Dexter, Mosh, Dayna Delux (she have someting small), Eden Berlin so It's ok (or I don't see it on pictures)...but also many have like Acid Doll, Cherry Dollface, Sabina Kelley, Micheline Pitt...for now I still have no some special tattoos (and I think I will never ink sleaves because of my job) but I appreciate beautiful tattoos and models. You are really so blessed that you live in US :) Do people generally have prejudiced against tattoos there? Btw. vivica - you can to buy some cream, it works like local anesthesia so you will don't feel nothing when you will get inked. My acquaintance used this because he inked some painful body locations. I think I will try it too :D My tolerance for pain is a little bit low.

I appreciate the advice and support Dee Dee and Greta.  It is nice to know that there might be a painfree way to get a tattoo, but for now, I think I will just continue to admire them on others.  :D  I know that part of it is having watched a program on how they do traditional tattoos, so already having the needle thing going, I just have more to overcome first. lol

I think I might someday, but for now I will just remain tat free.  :D  I already have so many things to decide about my look anyway.
