Hi, Ladies!

I am brand new to Pinup Lifestyle, and I'm here for advice on getting started as a pinup model (and for comradeship, of course!). I have my very first photoshoot coming up next week, and I'm feeling fairly comfortable (especially after reading the awesome advice on Miss Roxy Tart's website).

However, this shoot is with a professional photographer who doesn't specialize in pinup photography. I'm bringing all my own outfits and will take care of hair and makeup myself, and even have a few props of my own. I've been studying various pinup poses and practicing my facial expressions in the mirror. But does anyone have any helpful advice or tips for getting good pinup photos while working with a non-pinup expert? I'm just a little nervous, because I am such a novice myself!

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Hi again Sophia,

I have had a few shoots and still have been shooting every now and then; I think the best advise someone gave me once was to embrace a character, think of it like your alter-ego; Do one or two folders in your computer with pinup models you admire, look at their poses, try to understand first what's best for you and what kind of pose/facial expression you'd be more confortable doing, but above all, show confidence - that's why I think embracing a character is an easier way to do photoshoots! If you're confortable, everyhthing will come very naturally; Don't be scared if at the beggining of the shoot things don't come off very natural, it's a process; Just keep doing what you are doing and it will improve throughout the shoot :) Hope this helped! xoxo

I agree with Miss Perle Noir - try to have some plans yourself since the photographer may not have an idea of what you want. It's always better to show them something amazing than waiting for them to draw it out of you because, sometimes they don't! I was reminded of that just this week thankfully. Good luck with it! I can't wait to see the results.

The hardest photos to take are of people. If they have not done pin up look at their portrait work. Having and preparing you own ideas is a good thing. I can turn a so-so shoot into a great shoot. If  you can get a full length  mirror it might help. Good luck. R

There are 2 types of photographers you'll deal with, those that will control the set and those that will just shoot it. If you're working with someone that will pose you etc then they really do need to know pinup in order to produce killer classic pinup imagery. If you wont be provided with posing make sure YOU have the poses and wardrobe on lockdown. This will ensure you get images you're happy with.

If your situation is none of the above, you may not be too happy with what is created. Our photos area here is an incredible resource, pick out poses you love, recreate them!

Thanks so much for all the advice, everyone! I really appreciate all of your responses. The shoot was a challenge, but over all it went well and was fun, especially keeping these tips I'm mind. A great learning experience, though I will definitely try to do my next shoot with an actual pinup photographer.
