So the worst part of getting tattooed for me is not the pain of the needle. It's the healing afterwards. It's been just over a week since my last session and the itching just doesn't stop. I keep very well moisturized and still the agony. And because the last session was filling in new spots, I was tattooed in 4 seperate spots on my backside. But it's very funny to watch me try and smack my own back (and ass) trying to find minor relief. And there's no end in site for the near future. I have my (hopefully) last session on my backpiece Friday. While I'm super excited and can't wait, it also means more torture. Oh well, the price we pay I suppose. I just felt like venting to those that can truely understand.

I have to agree....the backside work can be hellacious when healing. I'll be getting another back piece soon and sooo not looking forward to those awkward positions of trying to find as you put it, "minor relief". But most definately worth it in the end. At least in my opinion!!!!
Oh geez, my tattoos always itch like CRAZY!!! The worst was my ribs because it takes up most all of my side onto my hip and back. I was going nuts!! It was like one big itchy brush burn! yuck.
Well the itching has finally gone away so we know what that means...time for more work. Today should be the last session of my backpiece. I'm so excited that the piece will be done by the end of the year. Seems very fitting. This time I'm getting the very center of my back done, so lots ofr new and even more akward postitions during moisturizing sessions. It's times like these that I wish a had a steady beau. But first, I'm off to the Betsy Johnson sample sale! On top of all that it's snowing huge snowflakes here in NY. Today is truely an awesome day!
Haha! Thats so funny. I'm with you, girl. I go into the shop for 3+ hours every two weeks for my backpiece. This week I got color put in the snake that travels up my spine and its killing me! I have to sit up straight and lean forward in the car because I'm so sore. Its well worth it... pictures will come soon!
Has anyone tried one of these lotion applicators for your back from Bed Bath & Beyond (and others)?

I get the feeling it would be just as difficult as using my hands.
Sitting is not really a problem for me. It's lying down that gets me. I tend to turn a lot when going to sleep so when I'm switching from side to side I always forget until it's too late that it's going to hurt. Fortunitely I'm done now, so this is the last of it. I'll have pics up soon myself. As far as the lotion applicators, I just make my own. I wrap a paper towel around a large paddle hairbrush and use the back of that. At least that's what I do when I use the Aquaphor since it's really thick and hard to spread. When I'm using regular hand lotion I can reach even the tough parts with the back of my hand.
Practicing yoga helps you reach all parts of your back with your hand :P As for sleeping... How 'bout when you wake up and all the ink and aquaphor has oozed through your shirt and then you have to peel your shirt off. Lol... That's shitty.
Pro Tip: Wear your shirt into the shower! It peels off much easier when it's wet with warm water.

Get a sleep shirt in like a rayon/polyesther blend (but loose so the tattoo can breath). I started wearing one with my fresh tattoo sessions because it was loose and I didn't care much about it one way or another so didn't care if it got ruined. I've never had a problem with it sticking to my tattoo. Ink's never transferred to it either.
