Why aren't Ethnic Pin Ups Not Being Recognized Enough?

I have seen many ethnic pin up models in the begining of the vauldville and burlesque eras, but I've never seen them enough whether its being advertised mainstream or underground. Why is that?

I'd love to see modern examples, if you have any!

There are a bunch of beautiful, successful, ethnic pinups out there (and here on PL!). Here is a thread we have going about African-American pinups, http://www.pinuplifestyle.com/forum/topics/african-american-pinup, and here are a few links to members: Ashleeta, Ashley, Angelique, Lil BitTrixie, NikiBetty, and Lisa just to name a few. Oh, and we can't forget about Masuimi Max!

There are no boundaries when it comes to skin color in pinup. Everyone is welcome.

A Pin-up is as a Pin-up does. Once one titles herself as "Ethnic" then you are limited to an Ethnic Audience or those who seek that certain Ethnicity. I feel to be a successful Pin-up you must put yourself out there & be in the peoples faces at every opportunity as with any career in the entertainment industry. There are still many obstacles for Ethnic people but those who push their way to the front eventually are heard & recognized!!

Thanks for the link! Helpful thread.

I'd love to shoot with more ethnic models!  I put a gorgeous Asian girl on the cover of the first "PinUp Girls Magazine" (facebook.com/pinupgirlsmag - shameless plug), but I rarely get an opportunity to photograph ethnic models, so most of my advertising is with caucasian girls.

I see and know many very successful ethnics pinups.  I think they are not only recognized but coveted. :)

i love photographing all people of all ethnic backgrounds, i am not sure why there aren't more.  i attached a few for ya to look at, i hope you like them <3!

After thinking about this for while, I feel the need to add something. The original question was, "Why aren't ethnic pinups being recognized enough?". Nicole said in her post above " I feel to be a successful Pin-up you must put yourself out there & be in the peoples faces at every opportunity as with any career in the entertainment industry.", and she hit the nail on the head.

No matter what your skin color or background; this scene, like others in the entertainment industry, is all about what you make of it. It's up to every model to put herself out there and work as hard she can to MAKE people recognize her. Every model, photographer, make up artist and hair stylist that you see out there making a name for themselves is working their tail off to do it.

The pinup scene and style celebrates all skin colors and nationalities, but the modeling aspect is all about hard work. It's not about ethnicity; and it's not about fans/promoters/etc recognizing or not recognizing people because of it. It's simply about who works the hardest. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.

Also I feel the need to point out that just because you don't feel that someone or a group of someones is getting the recognition they deserve, doesn't mean that they aren't. It might just mean that you haven't done enough research.
